Fans are still reeling from ABC's cancellation of Agent Carter, so it probably doesn't help that series star Hayley Atwell is teasing the unique direction Season 3 would have taken.
In an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, Florida the actress gave fans a taste of what they would have seen in the series' third season, noting a potential plot focused on Peggy Carter's family.
When discussing the plans for Season 3, Atwell told fans:
"There was talk of Season 3 of going further back into her past. So the showrunners were talking about a possible kind of twist, I suppose, into something to do with the family. They suggested there would be more to do with my brother. So that’s all I can say."
A family plot would have worked well in the show, especially given the references to Carter's past war record and family history in Season 2. Of course, the spy's niece Sharon Carter has played a role in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, so delving into the Carter family tree could have provided a deeper connection between Agent Carter and the MCU.
Fans are eager to bring Agent Carter back one way or another, taking to the Web and social media to call for the show's return. While it's unlikely they'll succeed, Atwell definitely seems ready to return to the role. She also told fans:
"I love Peggy. I love the people that were working on this project together. The fans are incredibly warm and welcoming. And it would be an absolute privilege and honor to bring her back for the fans."
Agent Carter may be cancelled, but you can catch Hayley Atwell in ABC legal drama Conviction this Fall.
