There's a slight hitch in Universal's upcoming Pitch Perfect 3. Today Variety broke the news that the third installment of the musical comedy series has lost its director Elizabeth Banks.

According to sources, Banks — who was both star and producer of the first film, and director of the second — is having to sit this one out due to her schedule becoming increasingly packed. She's currently filming Lionsgate's new Power Rangers reboot as the main antagonist Rita Replusa.

While Banks will no longer steer the helm of Pitch Perfect 3, the split was reportedly amicable. She will still stay on as a producer and continue to play the eccentric ICCAs commentator Gail.

Also announced to reprise their roles are stars Anna Kendrick, Hailee Steinfeld, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow. The movie will be penned by Pitch Perfect screenwriter Kay Cannon.

The release date for Pitch Perfect 3 has been postponed from July 21 of next year to December 22, 2017.
