A year ago, a video game out that made me jump for joy and think to myself "we did it, we finally did it." Generations of technological advancements and human perseverance finally brought us to the cusp of a dream coming true for everyone around the world. Giant robots were going to fight each other for sport and national pride.

On June 30th, 2015, California based start up MegaBots released a video challenging Suidobashi Heavy Industries to an all out brawl. MegaBots had finished building their Mark II fighting robot, but knew they weren't the first to make a fully functional giant robot. Japan had beat them to it and now they wanted to see who made the better mech. So what did they do? They made a video challenging Japanese robot maker Suidobashi Heavy Industry to a fight. The terms were simple, they get everything ready on their ends and in a year they would fight it out for robotic supremacy. On aesthetics alone, Suidobashi is ahead and they even made mention of it in their response video.

Just building something huge and sticking guns on it. It's super American. If we're going to win this, I want to punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it.

The man from Suidobashi also emphatically stated that giant robots are Japan's thing and that as a point of pride, they would crush the Americans for their hubris. He didn't say that in so many words, but it makes it sound more dramatic when I put it that way. The response from Japan came a few days later on July 5th of 2015 and it looks like everyone was ready to rock.

Things have been quite since then outside of an announcement from MegaBots' Twitter that they are now venture funded which means they have more money to build giant fighting robots.

No other news has come out surrounding the duel between Japan and America but with the one year anniversary of the challenge video just a few weeks away, hopefully we'll get some good news and a good fight.

Who do you think will win the duel?
