We knew that Jason's mom would be appearing in the upcoming 2017 reboot of Friday the 13th, but producer Brad Fuller just confirmed that we won't be seeing a single-parent family. Yup, Daddy dearest is coming to the new Friday the 13th!
Speaking to Yahoo, Fuller said:
“We’re going to go back and we’re going to meet that family...We’re going to meet the family. You’re gonna meet Pamela, Elias, and Jason. And you’re gonna see how it all happened.”
The Reel World previously confirmed that the new 2017 Friday the 13th would be not only a prequel but a full-on origins story:
“You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward...it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”
The last we saw of Pamela Voorhees was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sliver of actress Nana Visitor, who appeared briefly as Jason's mom in the 2009 Friday the 13th movie. No casting info has been released, but many fans hope that Kane Hodder will return as Jason. Sadly, the late, great Betsy Palmer will not be joining the movie.
Friday the 13th is set to slash its way into theaters on — you guessed it — January 13, 2017, which is very much a Friday.
