It looks like Supergirl's move to The CW is already starting out with a bang, as showrunner Andrew Kreisberg released a statement announcing the intention to bring Kara's cousin — the Man of Steel himself — to the show:
Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!
This is a huge deal for Super-fans, considering Clark has only appeared with his face obscured or in silhouette in the series so far. We've also seen Kara chatting with her cousin via instant messenger and Kal-El as an adolescent in an episode that found Kara hallucinating about what a life on Krypton could have been like.
Despite not physically appearing, Superman has remained a constant presence throughout the show, often referenced by the characters and Kara in particular as having a huge influence on her life.
Casting is currently in progress for the role, where it's possible — and likely — that this new Superman could one day cross paths with former movie Man of Steel Brandon Routh, who plays The Atom on DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
Crisis on Infinite Earths, indeed!
