The DC Extended Universe still has a long way to go if it wants to catch up to the mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe. With 13 movies and counting the MCU is officially owning the superhero genre, but there is a way DC can change that.

After the critical response to Batman v Superman, we can expect a major change in the way DC Comics movies are presented. I'm going to take one step further and discuss the one way I believe the DCEU can get ahead of the MCU.

The DC Extended Universe is already separating itself from the MCU by focusing on a different kind of character. In just two months David Ayer's Suicide Squad will land in theatres and is set to show a different side to the DCEU. It's also worth noting that for the first time DC Comics characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash are getting big screen adaptations, meaning Warner Bros. and DC are stepping away from just solo Batman and Superman movies.

Unlike Marvel Studio's, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have the right to their entire collection of heroes, meaning we could pretty much see appearances from any character in the DCEU. This opens the door for lesser-known characters like Swamp Thing and Booster Gold to get in on the action.

New is always better, especially when it comes to an audience. This is why it is so important for the DCEU to focus on these lesser known characters. We've seen various versions of Batman and Superman and at a certain point the audience lose interest. By introducing new characters like Swamp Thing and Booster Gold the audience will see that DC have more to offer than the same old superheroes and will continue to pay to see these movies.

There has been a lot of talk about the superhero genre lately, specifically about how long it will stay on top. In my opinion as long as the stories continue to change and appeal to audiences the genre is here to stay, but there is one way DC can help keep it going. At this point we've still only seen superhero movies, and that's great but with such a great collection of super-villains, the DCEU could open itself up to a whole new corner of storytelling. By giving its villains their own solo movie, DC will forever change the genre, and give themselves a niche which Marvel can't really compare to. This is why Suicide Squad is such an important movie for DC, it opens their world up for different characters, who aren't always doing the right thing.

That's How I Think The DCEU Can Get Ahead Of The MCU. Agree?
