TV Land is bringing The First Wives Club back, but this time it'll be on the small screen.
Alyson Hannigan (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer & How I Met Your Mother) and Megan Hilty (Smash) will lead the pilot based on the 1996 movie of the same name starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.
Keeping along the lines of the movie, it centers around three old friends who reunite after one of their mutual friends and classmates passes away. This leads the three of them to discover they all are having relationships problems and go on to help each other with relationships, divorce and other obstacles.
Based on Diane Keaton’s character, Hannigan will play Maggie, "an English professor and aspiring poet who is struggling to put excitement back into her flagging marriage. After the death of her friend, she is galvanized to leave her husband and tackle life with a renewed sense of adventure."
Hilty will play Kim, based on the character made famous by Goldie Hawn, "a formerly successful actress who has “aged out” of Hollywood. The needy and vulnerable Kim works hard to stay gorgeous, while doing cheesy commercials and holding out for that breakout role. She is a divorcee with an eight-year-old son."
No word yet on who might be taking on the Bette Midler character on the show.
The pilot will be written by Rebecca Addelman (New Girl) and executive-produced by Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City).
Alyson Hannigan is best known for her roles on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother, but has also starred in American Pie, My Stepmother Is an Alien, Dead Man on Campus and Veronica Mars.
While Megan Hilty got her big break on the short-lived, Smash, she has also starred in Sean Saves the World, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce and The Good Wife.
Any ideas on who will play the Bette Midler part? Will you be watching this remake?
