Injustice: Gods Among Us is one of the most underrated fighting games in video game history. Not only did it web together an interesting story it also featured an easy to master, but highly entertaining combat system as well. Being able to take Batman and pit him against the likes of Solomon Grundy or Deathstroke led to hours of entertainment in my household. Never mind the scores of villains that were available, you could also have your favorite hero go one-on-one with another hero. With Injustice 2 officially being announced, let’s take a look at a few characters that would make great additions to NetherRealm Studios latest offering.
Black Canary is known as one of the fiercest hand-to-hand combatants in the DC Universe. When you add that fact to how potentially awesome it would be to see her string together combos while using her Canary Cry, she is no brainer for this game. Also, if Injustice 2 is going to follow the comic series at all, Canary has a major role to play in the war between the New World Order and the Insurgency.
Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes):
Jaime Reyes is not exactly my favorite version of Blue Beetle (I’m a Ted Kord guy). That said, Reyes is definitely the most visually striking version of the character. The scarab on his back gives him a multitude of powers, most notably the ability to reconfigure itself into an unfathomable amount of weapons. It can manifest anything from a beam cannon to a giant staple shooter thingy (yes, that’s a real thing). Think about it: you could pin Doomsday to the wall with giant staples! Come on! Who wouldn’t want to see that!
Darkseid was originally available on the iOS and Android app version of Injustice: Gods Among Us. The fact that they left out the Lord of Apokolips in the console version is a travesty. Darkseid can go blow-for-blow with Superman and has proven himself a more than formidable force in the DC Universe. Having a godlike Darkseid to the roster will add even more depth to the veritable murders row of already selectable characters (in the original game).
At first glance, you may think I am insane for including Alfred but stay with me on this. During the course of the Injustice comic storyline, Superman attacks Batman and breaks his back. Alfred takes one of the special green pills and proceeds to beat the piss out of Superman for putting his hands on his son Bruce. It was one of the best moments of the entire Injustice series and it furthers the idea that Alfred is a bad ass in his own right. It would be cool to see what he could do in actual combat.
Midnighter is one of the most violent characters in comics. His brand of ultraviolence would be welcome to the somewhat tame Injustice video game series.
If you are not familiar with Midnighter, he is what you would get if you combined Batman, the Punisher and added enhances sense, speed, strength, and a healing factor. Midnighter is oft forgotten about due to his Wildstorm Comics (a DC Imprint) origin, but he would be a fast fan favorite if added to Injustice 2: Electric Boogaloo (working title…).
If you have checked out DC Rebirth event you will know why Dr. Manhattan has made a bit of a comeback as of late. I am not 100% sure how having him in the game would work. I supposed they can throw in a McGuffin to depower him a bit, but he would make the perfect final boss/playable character. When blocking projectiles, he could turn them into dust. After defeating you he could dispatch of you in his favorite way: making you explode into millions of pieces.
