Where would we be without our best friends?
After all, these are the people that make you laugh the hardest, pick you up when you're at your lowest and quite frankly, the human beings that you'd gladly be left on a deserted island with.
In celebration of National Best Friend Day this June 8, check out this touching tribute to some of the best female friendships that have been brought to life on the small screen over the years. Because if the lucky ladies below don't give us the ultimate #friendshipgoals, I don't know what will:
1. Leslie and April
TV show: Parks and Recreation
Leslie and April get so close over the course of the series that at times, people even mistake them for being a couple. They remain one of the most inspiring female friendships on TV, partly due to this immortalized quote:
“Hoes before bros. Uteruses before dude-eruses. Ovaries before brovaries.”
2. Rachel and Monica
TV show: Friends
Of course Phoebe is also part of this Central Perk girl gang, but it's Rachel and Monica that hold the longest friendship, having met in high school. Always there for each other, the ultimate dynamic duo set #friendshipgoals before that was even a thing.
Yes, they have epic fights and disagree on most things, but at the end of the day, they accept each other's flaws with open arms and love one another unconditionally.
3. Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha
TV show: Sex and the City
Ah, the infamous Sex and the City girls! Could anyone ever permanently sever the unbreakable bond between these four ladies?
Throughout the six seasons, many men have come and gone, but Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha have remained by each other's side, making them one of the best female friendship circles on television.
4. Abbi and Ilana
TV show: Broad City
Best friends in real life, actresses and creators of the show Broad City give us immeasurable female friend envy wherever we look.
Case in point: Only a true friend would hold your hair back when you puke and then throw up in the sink next to you to make you feel better. And only a BBF would know which signature "ugly face" you're going to pull before you even Snapchat it. Or how about carry you in her arms after you've had a severe allergic reaction to all the shellfish you've been eating at the fanciest restaurant in town?
5. Lucy and Ethel
TV show: I Love Lucy
These two certainly knew how to get themselves into a bit of a pickle, and have us all in stitches as a result. They knew how to talk each other into anything, how to pull of the most epic practical jokes and perhaps most importantly, they knew how to put a smile on each other's faces when things got tough. No wonder Lucy and Ethel still give us all the friendship goals!
6. Taystee and Poussey
TV show: Orange Is the New Black
They've had their ups and downs, but in general, Taystee and Poussey have stuck through thick and thin within the four walls of Litchfield Penitentiary (the library in particular). See where the drama takes them next in the trailer for the next season:
7. Jessica and Trish
TV show: Jessica Jones
Arguably, out of all the ladies on the list, these two have the most kick-ass abilities. Not only can Jessica and Trish whip someone's ass out of the way in less than a second, but they are incredibly protective of one another. Always there to help the other one up in time of trouble, this female friendship is one of the boldest and the best in the superhero world.
8. Elena, Caroline and Bonnie
TV show: The Vampire Diaries
Although Elena and Bonnie had been best friends for forever, they were happy to welcome Caroline into their friendship group after her difficult transformation into a vampire. Throughout the series, their sister-like relationship grew and despite unfortunate series of events often penetrating their intense bond, deep down these three have always deeply cared for one another.
