Marvel Studios have somehow achieved the impossible, creating an entire cinematic universe that faithfully brings everyone's favorite comic book characters to life on the big screen.

What's even more impressive is that the studio shows no sign of slowing down, scheduling a huge number of movies that will be released in the coming years, including untitled projects that will kick off Phase 4 in Marvel's world domination plan.

To celebrate the unbridled success of the studio's latest film, Captain America: Civil War, let's take a look back at each of Marvel's 13 movies, exploring what's made them so successful, so we can then choose our own personal favorites.

Just don't look for any X-Men, Spider-Man or Fantastic Four movies here. To keep things manageable and preserve our sanity, we're sticking solely with films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so superhero movies produced by Fox and Sony haven't make the cut unfortunately.

Iron Man (2008)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Before Robert Downey Jr. charmed us all with his take on Tony Stark, Iron Man was nowhere near becoming the household name he is today. This is where it all started folks, the beginning of the MCU, so show some respect.

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

After Ang Lee's Hulk movie divided critics, Marvel went back to the drawing board, recasting Bruce Banner with the oscar-nominated Edward Norton, whose intense performance grounded the CGI to create a surprisingly human story.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Iron Man 2 may not be the most popular MCU movie where the critics are concerned, but Marvel's first sequel features a ton of fun set-pieces and a hilariously odd performance from Mickey Rourke as the villainous Whiplash.

Thor (2011)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

For Marvel's fourth movie, the studio faced the difficult task of incorporating gods and magic into their predominantly tech-based universe, but Thor effortlessly won audiences over with a charismatic performance from Chris Hemsworth in the titular role. It's impossible to imagine anyone else playing the Thunder God as well as he does.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2012)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Once again, Marvel chose to shake things up, delving this time into the past for the origin story of Captain America, which effortlessly straddled the superhero genre with the tropes of a period war piece. Also, Chris Evans shows his arms off. A lot.

The Avengers (2013)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

A genuine game-changer, Marvel's Avengers successfully pulled together four icons into one incredible movie. Throw in Tom Hiddleston's Loki, the MCU's best villain to date, and it's easy to see why the studio's flagship team broke box office records with ease.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Tony Stark's third solo venture made some bold decisions, altering the way that Iron Man's arch enemy the Mandarin is portrayed compared to the comics, but what's most impressive is how the film ended with a giant battle royale featuring dozens of Iron Man suits all fighting at once.

Thor: The Dark World (2014)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Thor: The Dark World widened the scope of the MCU with inter-dimensional travel, ending with an epic showdown in the streets of London and a twist ending that will have huge ramifications for the MCU later down the line.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

A superhero movie styled after the conspiracy thrillers of the '70s has no right to work, but Captain America: The Winter Soldier broke new ground for the studio, proving that their unique brand of super-heroism could satisfy audiences on both a cerebral and visceral level.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Never afraid to take risks, Marvel transformed an offbeat space-set comic into one of their most widely loved movies yet, thanks to a talking raccoon, Chris Pratt's ridiculous dance moves and a tree with a heart.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Joss Whedon's follow-up to The Avengers introduced new fan favorites such as the Vision and Scarlet Witch, pitting them against James Spader's phenomenal take on Ultron, a sarcastic robot bent on world domination.

Ant-Man (2015)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

Paul Rudd seemed an unlikely superhero, but his irreverent take on the pint-sized crime-fighter won over audiences who were initially sceptical of such a bizarre concept. The Thomas The Tank Engine sequence alone is a contender for scene of the year.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Why It Should Be Your Favorite Marvel Movie:

In a fantastic year for superhero movies, the third instalment of the Captain America trilogy blew the competition out of the water, re-introducing our beloved Spidey in an epic airport battle that set a new benchmark for comic book fight sequences on screen.

That's it folks. It's an extremely tough decision, but you can only pick one, so tell us;
