Regardless of the eventual quality of The Shallows, Sony Pictures has done a masterful job of drumming up awareness with their marketing campaign for the movie. Each trailer has offered a new look and feel for the film that is making the movie a must-see for survival thriller fans. The script for the movie spent time on the Blacklist, which is a signal that the story is strong for the upcoming flick. Plus, it's summertime and the perfect time to hit the beach...or is it?
The newest trailer offers a different tone and feel than previous reveals, with a hypnotic beat and a speech about self-reliance that sounds from the WWII era. The juxtaposition of the speech with a situation that grows increasingly terrifying is a treat to watch and adds a new layer of intrigue to the upcoming movie. Blake Lively (The Town) stars in the film as the unfortunate surfer that has to find her way back to shore after being stranded and trapped by a great white shark. The movie seems to lack the camp of a Sharknado, while the trailer also hints at there being more story than what is being marketed. In a summer full of explosions at the movie theaters, it should be refreshing to see a simple Woman vs Nature story unfold. Enjoy the trailer!
