Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has proved a solid entry in the franchise, capturing the comedy and action of the titular Turtles' countless adventures.

Earlier today, Movie Pilot went live with Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo) and Jeremy Howard (Donatello) of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows for a Throwback Thursday celebration of all things TMNT. And we even got some info on the making of the new Turtles franchise!

As we learned, the trio are true TMNT fans, with each actor dropping knowledge on past movies and the comics. And like many fans, they got hooked with the original animated series. We showed the group some shots from the show, which brought up the nostalgic memories. Howard reminisced on his early artistic endeavors:

"Just looking at these images now, and I remember trying to draw them. All I would do is just sit in [my] fourth grade classroom trying to recreate these guys."

We also learned that the guys really did their research, going back to rewatch the original movies to better understand the franchise's history. For Ploszek, the old movies were a solid mix of comedy and action. As the actor put it:

"Tonally, they struck that balance of turtle fun but then also bad guys. ... That was sort of the high bar we've just been pursuing. They did so well."

Of course, we couldn't stay in the past forever, and luckily the trio was more than down to talk about their TMNT appearances. We even got the behind-the-scenes story of the hilarious beatboxing scene from 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As Howard recounted:

"That was just like a half an hour of magic where I think they were doing some rewriting and they said, 'Hey, quick, let's throw you guys in there. Can you just do some of your beatboxing that you usually do off-camera?' ... And it ended up being a spontaneous moment that everyone just kinda picked out as one of the highlights of that first film."

In the end, we could tell that not only are Fisher, Howard and Ploszek true TMNT fans, but they're actually pretty tight friends — which goes a long way in bringing the brotherly bond of the Ninja Turtles to the big screen.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is currently in theaters. What are some of your favorite TMNT memories? Let us know in the comments.
