Is there anyone in the entire galaxy more adorable than Daisy Ridley? Answer: No. Since her meteoric ride to fame after last year’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, the 24-year-old actress has proven time and time again to be worthy of the spotlight.
In the past, she has used her platform to speak out against bullying and body shaming. She’s also posted makeup-free selfies as a means of showing that even celebrities aren’t perfect. In short, she’s helped break down the notion that our role models are “flawless” and has made herself far more relatable for fans.
Today, Ridley posted a new image on Instagram along with an inspiring message about a personal struggle she’s faced.
Donning an adorable clay mask, Ridley reveals that she has suffered from a uterine tissue disorder called endometriosis for years, and the skin conditions that followed send her self-confidence into a downward spiral.
At 15 I was diagnosed with endometriosis. One laparoscopy, many consultations and 8 years down the line, pain was back (more mild this time!) and my skin was THE WORST. I've tried everything: products, antibiotics, more products, more antibiotics) and all that did was left my body in a bit of a mess. Finally found out I have polycycstic ovaries and that's why it's bad. I can safely say feeling so self conscious has left my confidence in tatters. I hate wearing make up but I currently don't want to leave the house without it on.
After opening up about her efforts to find a working treatment, she found a solution — one that unfortunately requires cutting back on dairy and sugar. Ridley then urges readers to learn from her efforts and seek medical attention if and when something feels wrong.
My point is, to any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don't worry about sounding like a hypochondriac. From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours our working in tip top condition, and take help if it's needed.
Even without makeup, it's clear that Daisy Ridley is beautiful on the inside and out. With her talent and kind heart, I have no doubt that she'll be around posting inspiring messages for years to come.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently being filmed and will reach theaters on December 15, 2017.
