The 2000s brought with them the rise of the superhero movie genre. With that said, there are some actors that literally fused themselves with their character, which makes it impossible for them to be recast or removed.
Speaking of this, in this article I will be listing 5 actors in the MCU and DCEU who have bonded with their character to the point where they each almost define each other. But before we start: Warning! Very minor spoilers for some Marvel and DC movies and TV shows.
So without further ado: lets start this!
Chris Evans - Captain America - MCU
Chris Evans first appeared as The America Hero back in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. Since then, Evans has appeared in 4 other movies as Cap, as well as the video game Captain America: Super Solider.
Even though he made a statement back in 2014 saying that he will quit acting, his contract with Marvel has been expanded and now he is predicted to feature in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity war.
Since his appearance, separating Chris and the Captain is almost impossible. Even in the "Hail Hydra" scandal earlier this year, the internet went wild with edits of star Chris Evans in a all Hydra Suit, as well as Chris Evans commenting on the idea, saying:
But that topic is for a different article, and if you would like to check it out, take a look at my article 5 Times Superheroes Broke The Internet !
Overall, Chris Evans' performance as the Captain made it impossible for any other actor to pick up the iconic shield, and truly made Captain America one of the most popular characters today.
Robert Downey Jr. - Iron Man - MCU
First appearing in 2008's Iron Man and opening up the all successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. has played the Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, and Philanthropist over 8 years and six movies including Avengers as well as a total of three solo films that add up to be one of the best superhero movie trilogy of all time.
Robert has made the character so iconic that even the comic books, Lego sets, and toy companies now create their non MCU related content with the RDJ face under the iron mask.
His portrayal as Iron Man has not only saved his career and turned him into one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood, but has also opened up Marvel to become one of the best movie studios to date.
Robert Downey Jr. is next set to appear as Iron Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming as well as Avengers: Infinity War.
Grant Gustin - The Flash - The CW
Jumping over to DC for a while, Grant Gustin entered the world of superhero TV shows back in 2013 in an Arrow episode titled The Scientist. Since then, he also appeared in 6 more Arrow episodes as well as getting two seasons of his own show, (Well, at least so far) which gained critical success very quickly.
Once DC announced the creation of their DCEU, fans have been dying to see Grant join Superman and Batman as the Scarlet Speedster. However, DC announced the casting of Ezra Miller in the role, and fans went on a rampage saying that no one else could play the Flash as well as Gustin did, and it's impossible to be as good as he was (maybe not IMPOSSIBLE, but very hard).
Barry a.k.a the Flash, will return to kick some meta-human ass in season 3 of his own series early next year.
Tom Hiddleston - Loki - MCU
This menacing God of Mischief was first brought to life on the big screen by Tom Hiddleston in 2011's Thor, and since than has appeared in two more movies, being the main antagonist in The Avengers and teaming up with his brother in Thor: The Dark World.
Even though he is the villain, and has only featured in 3 movies so far, Tom has gained one of the biggest groups of fangirls of the entire Marvel Universe, and has become so iconic that by now Tom is remembered as one of the only good villains in the MCU.
Tom is next set to appear as the God of Mischief in next year's Thor: Ragnarok and maybe, just maybe, in Avengers: Infinity War.
Samuel L. Jackson - Nick Fury - MCU
Not only did he appear in 7 out of the 13 MCU movies so far, but Samuel L. Jackson's performance as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D has made an enormous impact on the movies and the Marvel Universe as a whole. After his appearance in the end-credit scene of Iron Man and then his full on role in Iron Man 2, the MCU used Samuel's character as the center to the formation of the Avengers, and soon enough, he appeared in almost every solo movie in the MCU, including Captain America: The Winter Solider, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger.
Furthermore, Marvel Comics also changed Nick Fury in the comics to fit the looks of SLJ, and the big deal about this is that his race completely changed, showing how impactful and unreplaceable Samuel L. Jackson is in the role of Nick Fury.
He is next set to appear as Nick Fury in Avengers: Infinity war.
