In what could be deemed as the most shockingly unshocking news of the day, Rob Zombie's new horror film 31 is reeeeeeally gory. In fact, as of now, he can't seem to get anything less than an NC-17 rating for the film. Today's trailer release gives us a not-so-subtle look at the carnage that awaits those with strong enough stomachs who dare to watch Zombie's films.
31 is about five carnies in 1975 who, on Devil's Night — the night before Halloween — are abducted and held hostage by a group of murderous clowns. They unwittingly become involved in a 12-hour game called 31. Featured in the trailer is a lot of smudged clown makeup, powdered-wig-wearing weirdos, and of course blood. Lots of blood.
The film was crowdfunded and releases on VOD for September 16, with a theatrical release set for October 21 — just in time for anyone seeking gruesome thrills for Halloween.
Starring in the film are Rob Zombie favorites including his wife Sheri Moon Zombie (The Devil's Rejects, Halloween), Meg Foster (The Lords of Salem), Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange). While it may be more of the same from Rob Zombie, he clearly has a niche audience looking forward to seeing what new extremes he'll go to. If that's your thing, I'm sure you're grinning like a clown today.
Is Rob Zombie-level gore your thing?
