Community actor, Donald Glover, is officially in talks with Marvel Studios for a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Homecoming is set to be the 16th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise and Sony's third attempt at the character. But what character could Donald Glover be playing? Well, a trip back in time might answer that question.
Donald Glover has always been very vocal about being a huge fan of the Spider-Man character. When Sony was casting Amazing Spider-Man back in 2010, people heard about Donald's fandom and took the internet by storm with the hashtag #donald4spiderman as a way to ask the studio to give him the part. Donald Glover would have, of course, played the role of Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker, who took the reigns of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death in the comics.
Even though Andrew Garfield was eventually given the title role, Donald was still given his chance at the superhero title when he voiced Miles Morales in the animated show, Ultimate Spider-Man. However, with Donald in talks for a Spider-Man: Homecoming role, does this mean that Marvel intends to finally put Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's not like Donald Glover hasn't easily passed himself off as a high school or early college student in the past.
Along with Donald Glover, the film is already racking up some big stars including Michael Keaton as the villain and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Also casted are Zendaya, Kenneth Choi. Tony Revolori, Laura Harrier and even Robert Downey Jr making a cameo appearance. Maybe throwing in Miles Morales could just crowd the casting or maybe Marvel can find a way like they always do.
