News has just surfaced that Donald Glover is in early talks to portray a mysterious role, in 2017s Spider-Man: Homecoming. In all honesty, Glover is an amazing actor. He's been known for his roles in movies and TV shows such as: The Martian, Magic Mike XXL, The Lazarus Effect, and Community. Let's take a look at a few characters who Glover could potentially be cast as:
Having Glover in the MCU really would benefit Marvel Studios. But what fans really care about is: Who will he play? Rumor has it that he'll be cast as the iconic Miles Morales version of Spider-Man from the comics. The only issue with that is one thing, he's too old. Sure, Marvel Studios could pull it off. It wouldn't surprise me if they did. But that would essentially beat the purpose of a young Peter Parker. The only reason having a 20 year old Tom Holland playing a 15 year old Peter, is because he still looks like he hasn't hit puberty yet. I'm not bashing Holland, I'm just making a point. Tom is a great actor and he is by far the best Spidey in my book.
Harry Osborne/New Goblin
Some people are already saying that Glover is going to be a new-different Goblin. I would disagree. The reason I say this, is because it's too soon. We've had too many Goblins so far and we need new villains laid out on the table. Willem Dafoe did an outstanding job as Green Goblin and would I love to see him dawn the suit again, but it just wouldn't work.
I believe we're getting somewhere. It would be interesting to see a race/swapped character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. People love change. It's what prevents us from creating the future itself. I've always been a fan of Eddie Brock since the cartoon in the 90s and I believe fans would be pleased.
Randolph "Randy" Robertson
Glover doesn't necessarily have to be cast as a villain. Most of the comments I've seen, are thoughts of him playing a bad guy or Miles Morales. He could easily be cast as a close friend of Peter's or maybe even a made up character. But I seen one comment that made sense, Glover cast as Randolph "Randy" Robertson. I could really see Glover playing the son of Robbie Robertson. At one time, Randy was one of Peter's classmates in college. Again, Glover may be too old to pull that off, but they can figure out someway to make him a mentor to Peter of some sort.
