Whether we like it or not, we all know the world's most successful fan fiction by now: Fifty Shades of Grey. The hot and steamy reimagining of the Twilight story, has sold millions of copies and was adapted into a movie in 2015. We've also heard all about the two leading actors, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, from rumors that their hour-long shootings of sex scenes have been putting their own real-life relationships at risk to tales that they actually can't stand each other.
But what about the rest of the cast? As the two next installments of the trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, are currently filming in Vancouver, let's take a look at the minor characters we'll meet, again or for the first time, when the second Fifty Shades of Grey comes out February 10, 2017. And if you want to find out more, here's everything we know so far about Fifty Shades Darker.
1. Kim Basinger - Elena Lincoln/Mrs. Robinson
Elena Lincoln, who Ana nicknames Mrs. Robinson (as a reference to The Graduate, which also depicts the relationship between an older woman and a young man), is the woman who introduced Christian Grey to BDSM when he was only 15 years old. Understandably, there's bound to be quite a clash between her and the romantic Ana, especially when the latter realizes in Fifty Shades Darker that Christian and Elena still run a business together. She's played by Kim Basinger, who you might know from L.A. Confidential.
2. Luke Grimes - Elliot Grey
Elliot Grey is Christian's older adoptive brother, who meets Ana's roommate and friend Kate, when Ana drunk-dials Christian on a night out. They quickly fall in love and get married. He's played by True Blood's Luke Grimes.
3. Eloise Mumford - Katherine 'Kate' Kavanagh
It's only because Kate was sick the day she had to interview Christian that Ana and him met, as Ana stepped in for her roommate. Kate finds her happily ever after with Elliot, and they have a daughter named Ava. Eloise Mumford, who starred alongside Miley Cyrus in So Undercover, is Kate.
4. Eric Johnson - Jack Hyde
Jack Hyde appears in the second book and is a major character to the plot. Having grown up in the same foster home as Christian, he's jealous of the young entrepreneur's success. But when Ana applies for a job at his company, Seattle Independent Publishing, he insists on hiring her as his personal assistant and the feelings of competition between him and Christian only escalate. He's played by Eric Johnson, a TV actor who last appeared in The Knick.
5. Bella Heathcote - Leila Williams
Leila Williams was in an S&M relationship with Christian for several years, and she becomes mentally unstable the day her new lover dies in a car accident. In Fifty Shades Darker, she's jealous of Ana and starts stalking her, even getting her hands on a gun. Bella Heathcote, who recently starred in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and The Neon Demon, plays her.
6. Marcia Gay Harden - Grace Trevelyan Grey
Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey is Christian's adoptive mother, and it's because of her friendship with Elena Lincoln that the latter was able to meet Christian. We get a short glimpse of her in Fifty Shades of Grey when she almost walks in on Christian and Ana. Marcia Gay Harden has won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Pollock.
7. Max Martini - Jason Taylor
Jason Taylor has a close relationship with Christian as his bodyguard. He eventually gets romantically involved with the housekeeper, Gail Jones. He's played by Max Martini, an action specialist in movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Pacific Rim.
8. Rita Ora - Mia Grey
Hopefully we'll get to see more of Christian's family in Fifty Shades Darker. Mia is Christian's younger sister, and she's going to be threatened by Jack in the last part of the trilogy. She also appears to be interested in Ethan Kavanagh, Kate's brother.
9. Victor Rasuk - José Rodriguez
José Rodriguez doesn't get much action in Fifty Shades Darker, but he's an important part of Ana's life. They met in college and she considers him her best friend, almost like a brother, although he wished for more. But even though Ana insists she made things clear between them, Christian is still incredibly jealous — and will go as far as buying all of José's photos of Ana to cut their ties.
