Not too long ago, around the middle of May, I had the opportunity to attend a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and I must say, it is one of the weirdest, yet most magnificent films I have ever seen. Starring the great Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, TRHPS has become a cult classic and is the longest theater-running film of all time. Recently I watched the trailer for the upcoming remake starring Orange Is The New Black's Laverne Cox, and I have a feeling she will be spectacular in the role. I am so excited to see it! I think it's a great idea that a transgender female will be taking helm and live up to the role that launched Tim Curry's career. But, to be more faithful to the source material, I believe these male actors would have done a phenomenal job as well. Let's take a look!

1. Johnny Depp

Let me just start off by saying that Johnny Depp is my favorite actor, and he can portray any character he wants, and by that I mean ANY character! His career has spanned decades and he truly has enough experience and charisma to take any role and make it his own exhilarating and jaw-dropping performance.

Depp is a dynamic actor, he is unrecognizable in so many of his films and to this day he has yet to deliver a sub-par presentation. He can be anything he wants, whether it's Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, The Mad Hatter, and he will always deliver and give the audience what they want- awesomeness and flawless acting. His take on the 'Sweet Transvestite From Transexual Transylvania' would've been insanely amazing. Again, he can be ANYTHING. I really enjoy all of his movies and I think he is a great actor who really devotes himself to his roles. He takes it seriously and makes it a priority to give it his all.

2. Alan Cumming

Alan Cumming is a man of class, a man of the theatre, much like Rocky Horror's Tim Curry. Tim also started off in the theatre when he portrayed Frank-N-Furter in the original stage musical/play back in the '70s, which later became a movie where he reprised the role and hence began his successful acting career. Alan has enough experience on the stage, which would've surely made it much easier for him to fill such big shoes. He already has the acting chops and vibrant personality to do so. I believe he can flawlessly portray the character and make it even more iconic.

3. Jared Leto

Jared Leto is a true five-star celebrity. He's the lead singer for Thirty Seconds To Mars, and has starred in several masterpiece films such as Fight Club, American Psycho, Requiem For A Dream, and he will portray The Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad. Just like Johnny Depp, this man can fit into any role. He portrayed John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman in Chapter 27, and the lovable Rayon in the award-winning Dallas Buyers Club. A well known method actor, he deeply immerses himself into his roles and never breaks character. His fellow actors could definitely testify to that, as mentioned here. It would've been amazing seeing him as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the remake. He has the slender build and flamboyant personality of Tim Curry, not to mention both men have phenomenal singing voices! It seems like Jared Leto was born to play this role.

But, The Bottom Line Is....

Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox

These men would have made the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter their own. They would've knocked the ball way out of the park, and lived up to role that has made Tim Curry an acting legend forever. But, the bottom line is, this role now belongs to Laverne Cox, and I am 100% sure she will totally kick ass as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. I am so pumped up for The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, which is set to air on Fox in late October this year. Mark your calendars, and remember, Don't Dream It.....Be It!
