One of the most interesting aspects of Supergirl Season 1 was the way it seamlessly integrated the iconic Superman into the story. The Man of Steel played a role throughout the season, being referenced by other characters and even making some brief appearances — though his face was always in silhouette. Producers already announced plans to properly bring the hero to the show, and now we know who will play said hero.
Teen Wolf's Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as Clark Kent/Superman on The CW's Supergirl Season 2, making his debut during the first two episodes of the season.
Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement:
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Hoechlin's debut will find Superman visiting his cousin Kara/Supergirl in her home of National City. We assume they'll team up for some major action, with Superman likely teaching the Girl of Steel some lessons on heroism.
Tyler Hoechlin is a solid choice for Superman, especially considering his clout within the nerd community. Fans grew to love the actor from Teen Wolf, where he drove much of the show's drama as Alpha werewolf Derek Hale. Since leaving the series in 2014 Hoechlin's focused more on film, most notably starring in Richard Linklater's '80s comedy Everybody Wants Some!! and filming a role for the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker.
Supergirl Season 2 airs on Monday nights this fall on The CW. Are you excited to see Tyler Hoechlin as Superman? Let us know in the comments.
