We all know and love Charlie Cox as our lawyer-by-day/superhero-by-night main character from Netflix's Daredevil series. He's brought us an impeccable version of Matthew Murdock/Daredevil, after the failed attempt of Ben Affleck in the movie version, back in 2003 (No hard feelings, Ben. You gave us one hell of a Batman).
But did you know that our current Hell's Kitchen vigilante could have also played our next scruffy-looking nerf herder?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, while promoting his off-broadway play Incognito, Charlie Cox revealed that he was set up for what seemed like an audition that could have landed him the role of Han Solo in the 2018 anthology film!
There was only one problem: Throughout the audition, Cox never made eye contact with anyone in the room.
I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.
Although the English actor didn't land the roll of Han Solo (or even got a call-back, for that matter), he's still doing very well for himself!
He still has 2 months left to perform in the off-broadway play and will soon enough be gearing back up in his Daredevil suit to start production for Marvel's The Defenders series! (Which will also include Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist)
So don't feel too bad for him. He's still has a lot to look forward to!
