Natalie Dormer, like all fallible human beings, may have just made a little verbal flub that hints at her Game of Thrones' character's fate. First off, like all internet rumors, this one should definitely be interpreted with a heavy dose of skepticism.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dormer was asked if there were any rituals that the GoT cast do to farewell the characters who die on the show. Dormer laughed off the notion, saying:
“If we did that we wouldn’t have time for anything else."
But she DID describe the only ritual that is in place — a phone call from David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the creators of the show. However, it's HOW she described it that may be telling:
“We normally get a phone call from Dan and David, the creators of the show.”
That little slip of the word "we" of course caught the attention of her interviewers. Dormer seemed to have caught her mistake as well. The article states: "The actress was quick to shoot her publicist, standing nearby a look." She quickly backtracks:
“My understanding is that there is homage paid that way . . . but that’s as far as the ritual goes from my understanding."
This is clearly not an admission of knowing when or how her character Margaery Tyrell might die on the show, but it is troubling that she would so quickly correct what she could easily have dismissed as a you-know-what-I-mean sort of moment.
If Dormer thinks she may have let anything slip, she didn't seem to acknowledge it further. She went on to joke about none of the cast shedding tears over dead characters, especially after Jon Snow's resurrection. She also laughed over the bad wigs she had to wear during Margaery's imprisonment scenes.
“That wig and me are really good friends. I actually like it when it’s that messy—like surf hair. It’s cell chic.”
While Margaery appears to have dodged imminent danger in this season of Game of Thrones, things are getting a bit hairy in King's Landing as the Faith Militant gains prominence. Her secret note to her grandmother a few episodes back hint that cunning Margaery has a larger plan in the works.
Just be careful, Your Grace!
Do you think Margaery's number is up? Or did Natalie Dormer just fumble her words?
