There has been a lot of hype with the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. The first installment of the Avengers was a huge success, bringing home $1.52 billion. Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't quite catch up with its predecessor, bringing home $1.41 billion, but over all, the film wasn't that bad of a movie. Yes, it had its flaws, but it did have its great moments. Unfortunately, the film had too many characters and it felt as though Ultron, being the main villain, wasn't used as much as he was needed. But with the global hit, Captain America: Civil War, they fixed this problem. The Russo brothers did an amazing job and that movie defines Marvel Studios at their full potential. That's the same formula we need for Avengers: Infinity War.
We don't know much about the film and Marvel Studios is going to keep it that way as much as possible. Let's begin by taking a look at what we already know:
Thanos Will Be the Main Antagonist
After a good 30 seconds of screen time in the last few years, Thanos is finally not only going be a main character in the film, but will also be the main antagonist. Fans have literally waited years for this and we are finally going to see it in the near future.
Thanos actor, Josh Brolin, recently promised that in the film, it's Thanos vs. 'everybody'. He also stated that he was "blown away" by the story. All we could hope for is a huge fight between Thanos and the rest of Marvel. I would hope to think that the fight scene will be well over an hour long and to see some chaos.
Adding More Members to the Team
It has been confirmed that 67 characters will be in the film. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that there are 67 lead roles, so let's not get our hopes up. Movies that have a large cast, tend to not do very well. The Avengers was the first movie I've seen to have such a huge success with the number of lead characters it had. Out of The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War, I would say that Civil War did the best job, as far as the number of characters. Everybody had just enough screen time to make the film work.
The New Avengers
What some people don't know - is that the original Avengers are now split. It took me a while, but if you look at the logos for the first two Avengers films - you'll notice that the 'A' has a circle around it, representing The Avengers as a team. Now, in the Avengers: Infinity War logo, the 'A' has no circle. That means The Avengers aren't a team anymore and to have been broken up. That being said, it's been confirmed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will team up with the New Avengers to take on Thanos.
There Will Be No 'Part One and Part Two'
The Russo brothers have confirmed that the two parts are misleading to fans, and that the films are going to be two, very different movies. The titles have also been confirmed to change. Having so many characters in a film that aren't going to be split in two parts, poses a big challenge.
Since we have seen Thanos' cameo scenes in The Avengers, unfamiliar fans have been wondering:
Who Is Thanos?
Thanos is a very powerful supervillain. He has various abilities such as: super strength, stamina, durability, and is capable or telekinesis and telepathy. He has been trained in the Art of War and can project/absorb cosmic energy. Thanos has been known to be a genius, creating new technology and having knowledge in science, far superior than that of earth.
Which Comic Storyline Will They Use?
The Infinity Gauntlet comic storyline consisted of Thanos, wiping out the Marvel Universe, using the Infinity Gauntlet. He achieves this by collecting all six of the Infinity Gems/Stones. We still have yet to see two, of the six Gems/Stones, which are the Soul Gem and Time Gem. From the looks of it, we may see the Time Gem in Doctor Strange later this year. The Infinity Gauntlet storyline came before Infinity War, so it's likely that we'll see the Gauntlet story in Infinity War.
Now that the Russo brothers are back in the director's seat, that should be good news for fans. They have done incredible work and we know that they'll deliver. After seeing Captain America: Civil War, we know they'll give us a great film and I know fans will be pleased.
May 4, 2018 is the expected release date for Avengers: Infinity War.
