As the cast for Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to grow, the anticipation to see the film grows as well. This is the second actor this week to be added to the cast, alongside Donald Glover, who's role in the film is a mystery as well. Marvel Studios tends to keep a tight lid on things, at least while films are in pre-production.
Marshall-Green is best known for his role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus. He has also been in films such as Brooklyn's Finest, Devil and Quarry. Unlike Donald Glover's mysterious role, at least we know that Marshall-Green is going to play a secondary villain, alongside main antagonist, Michael Keaton. Let's take a look at who he could play:
Seeing Morbius in a live-action film would be amazing. The formula of Morbius and the possibility of Vulture would be incredible and test Spider-Man's limits as a hero. Watching the '90s animated series as a kid, which featured Morbius, got me hooked on most of Spider-Man's most iconic villains that people tend to underrate.
Morbius would also be fun to see, now that Blade has been scheduled to be rebooted in the near future.
Just like Morbius, I am a huge fan of Mysterio. Having new villains for another reboot is critical. Mysterio in Homecoming don't seem to be very farfetched. This could probably also lead to a Sinister Six film in the future. Mysterio has been rumored to be in a live-action film for years and it just makes sense to add him to the film, at least they can set Mysterio up as the main antagonist for the sequel to Homecoming.
In all honesty, Marshall-Green is most likely to be cast as The Tinkerer. It only makes sense knowing that Michael Keaton has all but confirmed to play Adrian Toomes/Vulture. The Tinkerer and Vulture have quite the history together in the comics. Yes, The Tinkerer is old, but that's not a problem that Marvel can’t get handle.
An All-New Villain
Spider-Man has a wide variety of villains. As much as I want Marshall-Green to be cast as The Tinkerer, it wouldn’t surprise me if they came up with an all-new villain for Spider-Man the MCU. It's less likely he'll play a main thug of some sort. Either way, Marshall-Green will be cast as someone incredible, which is a win-win for fans.
