Only read on if you seriously want to know, I cannot stress this enough. It has been revealed to me that this potential spoiler was removed from several sites already by someone connected to Alien: Covenant. The rumor, swirling around the casting of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them star, Katherine Waterston, has set the internet ablaze with fans weighing in heavily on both sides of the apparent controversy.
*FINAL WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD*
The supposed leaked information from the set of Covenant suggests that Katherine Waterston's character, at this time called only Daniels, is the future or current mother of Sigourney Weaver's Alien ass-kicker, Ellen Ripley.
Now we must remember that this is only a potential spoiler, it hasn't been confirmed or denied by anyone associated with the Prometheus sequel. There could be any number of reasons why someone would ask to have it taken down, the obvious being they don't want false information being spread around that could ultimately either doom the film or the fan's expectations.
Back in the end of May, however, there was a picture released of Waterston's character, looking very much like the Ellen Ripley we've come to love and adore for the past thirty years. Well, much more closely to how Ripley looked in Alien 3. Check it out below,
Whatever the case for her character may be, we don't really have enough information to make an educated guess as to whether this rumor deserves any actual merit. All we've got is director Ridley Scott stating that he plans on connecting Covenant to the original Alien film. Could this be what he meant? I don't know. What I do know is that the rumor isn't sitting well with all fans of the horror/action franchise. Some are even labeling it as a lazy move from Scott to bridge the gap between the films sooner than he would've liked due the disappointment that was Prometheus. Others are stating it's just a ploy to get Ripley's name dropped in a potential future teaser or trailer for the film.
So, other than rumor, what do we know about the movie?
Oh yes, that's right. Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw will not feature as prominently (or near at all) in the upcoming sequel to the film of which her character was the only human survivor.
The only real returning cast member from Prometheus that has been confirmed is Michael Fassbender, who portrayed the murderous and devilish android, David. He and Shaw were last seen at the end of Prometheus flying away in one of the Engineer's space ships off to find out where it is they originally came from. Hearing the news that Shaw won't exactly be around for what lies ahead, doesn't really grant hope that she survived either the journey or the destination. I guess we'll just have to wait until August 4th, 2017 when Covenant is released to see what it is that Scott has in store for fans of his iconic film franchise.
