There is always something cool about a new universe coming to life on-screen. Starz is bringing Neil Gaiman's popular novel American Gods to the small screen, and it will be something unique as we dive into the lives of mythical gods in a modern world. We're going to get a very close look at what happens when the Gods of old meet the Gods of today.

American Gods is the story of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-convict who served three years in the pen for a bank robbery. He finally gets out, only to have to bury his wife Laura (Emily Browning) who was killed in a car accident. On his way to the funeral on a plane, he meets a man only known as Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) who sets Shadow on a path towards the secret world of the Gods of old-Norse, Egyptian, African, Slavic, etc and reveals the secret war against the Gods of today.

Meet The Old Gods

The Old Gods are a dying breed, as their followers dwindle generation after generation. They are gathering in the modern world of today to fight for their survival against a new threat to their existence.

Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) is ODIN, THE NORSE GOD

Czernobog (Peter Stormare) The SLAVIC BLACK GOD OF DARKNESS

Low Key Lyesmith (Jonathan Tucker) is LOKI THE NORSE GOD OF MISCHIEF

Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) is Suibhne, The Mad Old Irish King

They are the new Gods of today, beings born from America's love of the internet, money, media, and all things 'Black'. The American Gods are powerful and have no desire to share the world with the Old Gods, the dying class.

Gillian Anderson is the Goddess of Media, the embodiment of America's addiction to TV, radio, and internet.

Crispin Glover plays the hound god for the American Gods, Mr. World. He comes from America's love for the world of Black Ops. They are 'spies' for the new Gods in their fight against the old.

Produced by Bryan Fuller, the man who brought you critically acclaimed shows like Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies and Hannibal- AMERICAN GODS will definitely break new grounds for religious-themed TV. With the current cast of acting talent already confirmed, this show has the makings of the next great series on cable.

AMERICAN GODS will air on STARZ in 2017.
