Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out in March to a mixed reception from audiences around the world. Some weren't happy with the script, others with the actors and others with Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex Luthor. The openly crazy interpretation of the character did not sit well with many, making his casting and portrayal some of the most controversial ones for superhero cinema.

Last month, during the MCM London Comic-Con, Jesse Eisenberg was asked if he would appear in next year's highly anticipated Justice League. He had this to say:

I’m kind of in wait. They just started filming Justice League, so I’m kind of like waiting for my crack at it. I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, because I feel like there’s probably some drone following me from DC, and if I say anything wrong I get, you know, picked off. But yeah I think so, and I love it, and I love everybody who’s in it. You know, it’s a really talented group of people.

While that was a really strong tease for things to come, it wasn't exactly a confirmation. Since then, fans have been left wondering if they would indeed see the old deceased maniac in the same movie as the League of Justice (I know how it's called)... Until now.

During an interview with The Shortlist, Jesse Eisenberg finally gave a concrete answer about his involvement with Justice League: Part One, which is currently filming in London. He said this:

“They are filming (Justice League) now, and I jump in from August. I loved the character and it was the most fun I’ve ever had at playing a role, and most challenging, in a great way, and most rewarding. I would love to play it for years. The character I play is so unusual and complicated. As an actor he’s everything you’d want to do. It’s very exciting for me to play that role. And, secondarily, it’s interesting to be in these massive, high-profile movies, because all the stuff around you as an actor is really good. All the artists are really great, so you walk on to a set and it’s the most-detailed, comprehensive set, and as an actor it really fills in your imagination in a special way. You’re also acting with incredible actors. In the last movie I had lots of scenes with Holly Hunter, who has been one of my favorite actors since I was young. This all exists because this movie is so massive that they attract so many talented people, even in smaller positions. It was really special to me. The most exciting part was to play such an interesting character and I certainly hope he stays alive throughout the next few films.”

When asked about the film's plot, Eisenberg replied "I truly don't know the answer".

Well, what do you think? It seems Luthor is sticking around for the long haul. What could his role in Justice League mean? Will he be an antagonist? An unlikely ally? A gratuitous cameo? To be honest, this doesn't surprise me, considering that at the end of BvS, Lex was essentially a Darkseid setup.

What about you?
