As anyone who's seen the hit dance movies from the Step Up franchise can attest, five films is just not enough. We need more hip hop, more ballet, more hot dudes and girls getting thrown up into the air. And now, thanks to the wonder couple that started it all, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum, we're going to get it.
Step Up the TV Series will be an original series made for YouTube's premium streaming service, YouTube Red. Channing and Jenna will be joining the crew as executive producers, alongside the three original film producers, Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Meredith Milton.
Susanne Daniels heads up the YouTube Originals department and says she'd been hoping to kick off this project since coming to YouTube from MTV last year. Aside from the fact that Step Up brought in an impressive $114 million worldwide, dance-related content has always thrived on YouTube:
“We know dance is a hugely successfully global audience on YouTube."
In fact, YouTube Originals has done another dance-themed movie, called Dance Camp. Maybe they can borrow some of the young stars for the new TV series? And is there hope of getting Channing and Jenna to make special guest appearances?
In the meantime, here's the final scene from Step Up to remind you how amazing this is going to be:
