There is no question that the finale show episode "The Winds Of Winter" exploded the world of Game of Thrones in true fashion. There was retribution, redemption, and a good ole spoonful of shock and awe. It was exciting and fulfilling as the end came for some, prices were paid on outstanding debts for others, and new chapters began for those that have suffered greatly.
The STARK Family Is BACK!
There is a new White Wolf in the North and his name is John Snow. The bastard son of Ned Stark has finally taken a step toward his rightful place as the lords of the North's great houses has elevated him to the status of King of the North.
Sansa Stark has little finger literally wrapped around her finger, as the de-facto head of the Vale professed his love to the Winterfell heiress. Petyr Baelish literally put forth a vision of ruling the North with Sansa by his side hoping the she-wolf would bite. Baelish even tried to poison Sansa's mind against her brother by spewing the "bastard" talk, and by the look on her face when the bastard was made the new King-maybe a seed was planted.
Bran Stark made it to safety with the help of his uncle Benjen, who finally departed south for the big fight headed their way. Bran tapped into his power of sight beyond sight and we finally got the big reveal everyone has been waiting for, the true lineage of John Snow. The vision saw Lyanna Stark on her death bed , pleading with her brother Ned to "take care" of her child and keep his existence a secret from Robert Baratheon. That baby boy, just born was none other than John Snow, finally giving us the truth that he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and the true heir to the Iron Throne.
Yet, the best surprise came at the hand of Arya Stark who finally got some payback for the Red Wedding by slashing the throat of Walder Frey and bleeding the tyrant dead. She wanted to make sure that the last face he ever saw was the face of a Stark. Such a fitting end to the storyline of The Red Wedding.
There is a New Ruler On The Iron Throne, And Her Name is CERSEI...
Cersei Lannister handed down judgement on all her enemies and it has repercussions that were gigantic. Using cunning and the will that has made her a force to be reckoned with, Cersei dispatched all of her enemies by a way of a giant explosion that rocked the entire city. Let's go through the list of the dead.
The High Sparrow and pretty much all of his followers, Loras Tyrell, Mace Tyrell, Grand Maester Pycelle, and Margaery Tyrell were all killed. Unfortunately for Cersei, her last child Tommen, King of the Andals threw himself off the balcony and to his death. Thus catapulting Cersei to become the Queen of all the Seven Kingdoms, without shedding a tear for her youngest son. Much to the dismay of her brother Jaime Lannister, who made it just in time from his battle at River Run for the coronation of his sister and the death of his last child.
Oh, and she fed Septa Unella to Gregor "The Zombie" Clegane for some torturous rape and pain. By the way, we got a peek at what the Mountain looks like under the helmet and it's ugly.
Yet, the event didn't come without a price to pay as Olenna Tyrell has agreed to a union with Ellaria Sand, the new Queen of Dorne. Obviously this comes due to the last of the Tyrell bloodline, her son, and both grandchildren being killed by Cersei, leaving High Garden with a bleak future. The Queen of Thorns plans to join the next great threat to the Lannister hold on the Iron Throne, by way of Varys who has made his way from Mereen to make a way for that threat....as,
The Mother of Dragons is on her way back to Westeros
The stage is set for Daenerys Targaryen to finally return to Westeros, as her army on-board the iron fleet, advisers including the new "Hand of the Queen" Tyrion Lannister, and most importantly- her dragons begin their trek across the sea towards the iron throne. Next season will undoubtedly begin with her touching down somewhere to begin her conquest. Maybe Dorne, maybe High Garden.
Davos finally got justice for the burning of Stannis Baratheon's little daughter by having John Snow banish our favorite witch Melisandre south of the wall, but I'm sure it won't be the last we see of her. Finally Samwell Tarly and Gilly made their way safely to the Citadel to begin his training as a Maester.
Season six of has to be considered one of the most memorable of all the seasons aired. We can only imagine how season seven is going to play out as the wait for the battles of Westeros for the Iron Throne and against the White Walkers comes nearer and nearer. Let the speculation begin!
