In case you haven't heard, YouTube Red is rebooting the decade-old dance movie Step Up into an original TV series. In honor of the woman who jumped into Channing Tatum's arms and fulfilled every girl's fantasy, here's everything you need to know about Jenna Dewan Tatum.
1. She Married Her On-Screen Romance
If you hadn't already gotten a hint from their matching last names, Jenna Dewan ended up marrying Channing Tatum after meeting on the set of Step Up. Their romance blossomed on set, which is one of the many reasons their chemistry was so believable on screen. The couple officially sealed the deal in July 2009.
2. Jenna Dewan Tatum Is A MILF
Jenna Dewan Tatum gave birth to her daughter Everly Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum on May 31, 2013. The three-year-old was named after both her great-grandmothers, Jenna's grandmother being Elizabeth and Channing's being Maiselle.
Since Chan was filming in England, they delivered the baby in London, escaping to a little cottage after her birth. Word on the street is that Chan is a professional diaper changer, yet another thing to add to his resume. He certainly hit the jackpot too, as not many moms give their kids baths while dancing to Drake.
3. Jenna Lee Dewan Is A Mutt (In A Good Way)
Jenna was born in Hartford, Connecticut before moving to Grapevine, Texas. Her father, Darryll Dewan, is of half-Lebanese and half-Polish descent. Her mother, Nancy (Bursch) Smith is of German and English ancestry. No wonder this woman looks so exotic, her heritage makes for a fascinating combination.
4. Jenna Has Been Dancing Since The Age Of 5
You may recognize this image from the movie Step Up, when Jenna's character Nora Clark shows Tyler Gage her childhood pictures. Those were in fact photographs of her younger self. She's been a diehard dancer since she discovered her passion at the age of five.
"I'm from Texas and actually went to a regular high school but every day after school, I'd run to dance class and practice a lot and then go back the next day and stuff like that."
These skills have obviously come in handy during her debut into Hollywood, but even her hubby has taken advantage of her technique, since she's been giving him private coaching with tap dance lessons for his role in Hail, Caesar! (2016).
5. She Has Danced In Concert Tours & Music Videos
Jenna was discovered by a dance agent before touring alongside major artists in the music industry, such as Janet Jackson and Ricky Martin. You'll catch her in some of Janet's music videos, but also in some of Justin Timberlake's, Mandy Moore's, Christina Aguilera's and Missy Elliott's.
"I had danced with Janet Jackson and P. Diddy so I had done a bunch of hip hop. Really and truly my roots are in modern and ballet but, professionally, that's not really out there any more, unfortunately, so these artists aren't really having a lot of ballet dancers behind them so I had to learn hip hop really quick."
6. Step Up Isn't Her Only Dance Movie
If you're a true Jenna dance fan, you've probably seen this as often as Step Up (i.e. you know the moves by heart). Shortly before starring in the movie that started the franchise, Mrs. Tatum had a role alongside Antonio Banderas in Take The Lead (2006). She took part in one of the most epic tango routines to ever hit the screen, a legendary tango for three.
7. She's Had Many Other Roles
As much as we love to watch Jenna dance, she does stand on her own as an actress. If you were to scroll down her IMDb page, you'd be shocked to realize how many times you'll go "Oh my god, she was in that!" or "That was her?!" For example, she appeared in The Mindy Project (2014), American Virgin (2009), Melrose Place (2009), The Grudge 2 (2006), and even Joey (2005).
Her most notorious roles include Lucy Lane in Supergirl (2015-2016), Freya Beauchamp in Witches of East End (2013-2014), Teresa Morrison in American Horror Story (2012), and Janie in The Playboy Club (2011).
8. Jenna Dewan Started A Production Company And Stepped Into The Shoes Of A Producer
Along with her husband and select friends, Dewan created a production company called 33andOut Productions. Jenna was the executive producer in its first project, a documentary called Earth Made of Glass (2010), directed by Deborah Scranton.
The plot is centered around the Rwandan genocide, more precisely on the Rwandan President Paul Kagame and a survivor Jean-Pierre Sagahutu, the latter who is haunted by his father's unsolved murder.
9. She Is Messy
This interview shows it all. She's not exactly the neatest person, but neither is Chan. Apparently poor Jenna has to watch him strip every time he walks through the door, leaving his clothes on the floor. Life is rough... Is that revenge for being messy? In that case, everyone stop cleaning now. You never know who will work through that front door...
10. Mrs. Tatum Is A Dog Person
Not only does the Tatum family love dogs, but they own two of them named Lulu and Meeka to keep Everly company. The couple has also supported Fox's Cause for Paws, an all-star dog rescue celebration.
11. Jenna And Chan Own A Bar On Bourbon St.
Saints & Sinners is the bar owned by the Tatums on Bourbon Street, in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The offer kind of fell into their laps — with perhaps a few Hurricane cocktails — and they decided, why not open a bar on Bourbon St.?! It's a pretty crazy bar, with lots of Mardi Gras beads (and maybe the occasional spontaneous stripping).
12. She Has Encountered A Ghost
In New Orleans, Jenna stayed at the Omni Hotel while filming a movie. One night, the lights started flickering and she "felt something," thinking it may have been a ghost. She doesn't believe in magic (even though she plays a witch in Witches of East End) but she does believe in ghosts.
13. She Has A Crush On The Biebs, Who Has A Man Crush On The Tatum
After bumping into Justin Bieber with her friends, Jenna did not exactly keep her cool. They sent him over a drink to "thank him" for serenading them. They then proceeded to take a selfie as Jenna's crush (a.k.a. The Biebs) explained that her husband was his man crush. Oh, the love triangle.
14. She Is A Huge Karaoke Fan, If You Couldn't Tell From Her Lip Sync Battle
Ahem... Her performance speaks for itself. And if it doesn't, that means you haven't seen Magic Mike or Magic Mike XXL. In that case, why are you here? (Not on this page, but on this Earth?!) Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating... On second thought, nope. Hurry up and enjoy every minute of it, cause Chan just announced there probably won't be a third.
