Do you remember the adventures of Manny, Sid and Diego in Ice Age? It's been fourteen years since the release of the first movie, and Blue Sky studios has released 4 other movies since. The last one, Ice Age: Collision Course, is coming out stateside on July 22.
If you feel like watching the fifth installment of the series, but aren't exactly sure what the grumpy mammoth and his friends have been up to — did anyone say dinosaurs? — here's a guide to the characters you should expect to see in Ice Age: Collision Course.
We all know Manny, Sid and Diego (from right to left in the picture below) from the first Ice Age, where they end up with a lost baby human on their hands/trunks/paws. The idea of each Ice Age movie is pretty simple: a gang of grumpy friends who'd rather be anywhere else have to undergo a long and arduous journey, either to bring something back to where it belongs or to uncover a distant threat — and finally realize they actually like each other very much.
In the upcoming Ice Age: Collision Course, Ray Romano voices Manny the mammoth, John Leguizamo is Sid and Denis Leary is Diego the saber tooth tiger. Let's not forget Scrat, voiced by Chris Wedge, whose love for acorns knows no bounds (and will set off disastrous consequences once in a while).
The following characters were introduced somewhere between Ice Age 2 and 4.
Ellie is Manny's wife. She used to think she was an opossum after she lost her pack and grew up with fellow opossums Crash and Eddie, but thankfully she's had enough flashbacks to realize she was a mammoth and stop hanging upside down from a tree. Now she's the happy wife of Manny and mother of Peaches, and she's voiced by Queen Latifah.
Peaches is Manny and Ellie's daughter, and in her teenage years when Ice Age: Collision rolls around. She's voiced by Keke Palmer.
3. Crash and Eddie
Opossums Crash and Eddie are like insufferable little kids, but also deliver some of the great punchlines of the Ice Age movies. They're unstoppable. Crash is voiced by Seann William Scott and Josh Peck by Eddie.
We were introduced to Buck in the third movie, when he helped our heroes survive in a dinosaur-infested jungle that had survived the ice age. Voiced by Simon Pegg, he's a fearless hunter who reunites with the team in Ice Age: Collision Course.
Voiced by Jennifer Lopez, the beautiful saber tooth tiger Shira is Diego's wife. You'll see that a lot of Ice Age: Collision Course is about marriage.
What's better than one lazy, clumsy sloth? Two, of course! Wanda Sykes voices Sid's Granny, who doesn't know what she's doing half the time.
Now, Ice Age: Collision Course will also introduce us to a bunch of new characters.
7. Neil deBuck Weasel
An obvious spin on the name of astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Neil deBuck Weasel is an astronomer who lives inside Buck's head — and he's voiced by Neil deGrasse Tyson himself!
8. Shangri Llama
The key to the plot of Ice Age: Collision Course resides in Geotopia, a community lead by Shangri Llama. Voiced by Tyler Ferguson, he's a yoga and spiritualism adept.
Another resident of Geotopia is Brooke, a pretty hippie sloth who sees something in Sid everyone else doesn't. She's voiced by Jessie J in Ice Age: Collision Course.
Finally comes Julian, Peaches's fiancé, who tries very hard to fit in with his step-family. Who would have know there were actually so many mammoths around? He's voiced by Adam DeVine.
