J.K. Simmons has finally opened up about his work-out photos that went viral last month. The photos showcased an insanely ripped Simmons working out prior to filming Justice League. This led many fans to freak out, speculate and, of course, create an onslaught of meme's. Many believed that he was beefing up for the role of James Gordon in Zack Snyder's Justice League, but Simmons has said that this isn't the case.

The 61 year-old actor recently revealed to Business Insider that he has been in amazing shape for quite some time;

"This is all coincidental. After the second and final time that I got hugely fat in my life and when I lost that weight six or seven years ago, I pretty much decided that I was going to stay in decent shape for the rest of my life."

"Decent shape" is a major understatement, the Oscar winner makes Bane look like Victor Zsasz with his impressive physique.

While the photos went viral last month, they were actually taken well before then, as the Spider-Man alum joked;

"Those were shot at the end of April. I'm huge now!"

This will lay many fans minds at rest who were wondering if he was keeping the messy - yet amazing - beard for Justice League. They can now stop panicking because the beard has now been shaved as it was for his upcoming role in I'm Not Here. Speaking about being faithful to the source material, Simmons said;

"I'm not going to mess with something that iconic"

Understandable with the beard, but seeing a Jim Gordon who looks as if he could beat Batman in an arm-wrestling match is something I would love to see. He is definitely not messing with Jim Gordon.

Simmons previously confirmed that James Gordon has a very small role in Justice League. That role is all but confirmed to be the rooftop fight between the Justice League and Darkseid's parademons, so it will be interesting if we get to see Simmons jacked up muscles punch a parademon. That would be pretty awesome. That actually has to happen now that I have typed that.

Justice League is set for release November 17th, 2017.
