Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of Superman Returns, the homage/sequel to the original Christopher Reeves Superman film! Superman Returns may not be as revered as films like the original Superman and Man of Steel, but the 2006 superhero film deserves to be on everyone's radar for the things it did.
What did it do exactly? Well for one, it completely ignored the events of the god-awful Superman III and IV films, and in doing that, it created a fairly decent Superman movie. It also gave actor Brandon Routh to show DC Comics and the world that he has what it takes to bring an iconic character to life!
Sure, his name is arguably not as well-known as Christopher Reeves or Henry Cavill, but Brandon Routh absolutely deserves to have his name on the list of actors who brought Superman to life!
Speaking of Superman actors, we're set to get yet another iteration of the Man O' Steel when season 2 of Supergirl appears on The CW. Tyler Hoechlin, of Teen Wolf fame, has been cast as the newest TV version of Superman, set to appear alongside his cousin as a guest star!
Being that he portrayed Superman before, Brandon Routh obviously has a connection with the superhero. Because of this, fans were curious to hear his thoughts on Hoechlin's casting. Luckily, Routh answered during a recent Reddit AMA, giving his best wishes to The CW's casting choice:
"I wish him the best and hope to meet him if Ray gets to crossover to Supergirl!”
Brandon Routh is currently portraying another DC character, The Atom, on DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Supergirl is set to have a crossover episode with Legends of Tomorrow during the latter's second season, so it's possible that Tyler Hoechlin's Superman could tag along for the ride. Although, it seems unlikely, as Hoechlin is currently only set to show up for two episodes of Supergirl.
Still, with the connection that Routh and Hoechlin both have to Superman, it'd be a shame if they didn't come face-to-face at some point. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds for both characters. You can see Brandon Routh in DC's Legends of Tomorrow when season 2 premieres on October 13, 2016, and catch Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in season 2 of Supergirl when it airs October 10, 2016!
