Captain America: Civil War was released in May to critical acclaim, holding a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The 12th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also managed to earn $1.148 billion at the worldwide box office, making it 2016's most profitable film so far.
After all of this, it's only natural that many fans are eager to get their hands on a DVD/Blu-ray copy of the film. Rumors started swirling around the interwebs that the film would be released on home video sometime in September, but there is no actual confirmation as of now. What we DO have, however, is what will be in the Blu-ray, and saying it has some interesting stuff would be a huge understatement on my part.
At the Disney Preview event in New York City, a copy of the 3D Collector's Edition Blu-ray for [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409) was on display, and it gave fans the opportunity to see both the cover art and the features that will come with it. Here's the picture:
Now, it's time to take a look at the special features, which "feature" (pun absolutely intended) a sneak peek at Doctor Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and scheduled for release on November of this year (2016 for all of you future people):

Deleted and Extended Scenes
Of all of the features mentioned above, we are going to focus on the two that - in my opinion - are the most important ones. First:
THE DOCTOR STRANGE SNEAK PEEK
Doctor Strange has gone from being in development hell for years to one of the most anticipated superhero films in years. That is a big accomplishment considering how saturated the market is with superhero media at the moment. With that said, what could the sneak peek give us? If previous sneak peeks included in Marvel home-media releases are anything to go by, it could just largely be a behind-the-scenes look, or a teaser like below:
But...what if isn't just that? What if Marvel is kind enough to give us hungry fans a short scene from the film? Better yet, could this tease reveal new characters? Maybe a certain flaming head whose name rhymes with "Kormammu" or a look at Stephen Strange in full costume?
A few days ago, I wrote about the reveal of Doctor Strange's main villain, who will be played by Mads Mikkelsen, but what if the film has more surprises in store in the form of secret prominent characters from Doctor Strange's rich comic book history?
Granted, for some this might be quite far-fetched, but we are fans and we are allowed to dream, aren't we? AREN'T WE?! Ahem...moving on.
WHAT COULD THE DELETED AND EXTENDED SCENES ADD TO THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE?
One of the highlights of the MCU's latest entry was Tom Holland's Spider-Man, who, in the film, is mentored by Tony Stark. What many people have pointed out is that Stark managed to build a high-tech suit for the young hero, which happened off-screen. Could it mean that longer interactions between Peter Parker and Tony Stark were filmed but left in the cutting room floor?
Let's remember that the new scenes coming will not only be deleted ones but also extended versions of the ones that were part of the film. What if we get the opportunity to know this version of Peter Parker better through either a deleted or extended scene?
We already know that there were two Civil War scripts in case Marvel's deal with Sony didn't go through: One that had Black Panther filling Spider-Man's role and the other that had Spidey himself. That fact is enough to make us hopeful for more Spider-Man footage.
But what about T'Challa/Black Panther? Is it possible that his mythology was explored further? I am personally hoping we get a deeper look into Bucky's backstory. Being a big fan of the Ed Brubaker's Captain America run myself, I loved following the Winter Soldier's adventures.
Still, let's keep in mind that unlike with Batman v Superman's, Disney, Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers were very happy with the finished product of Captain America: Civil War, so I wouldn't expect an extra hour of footage that changes the film's story in a big way.
After these speculations, one thing's for sure, the Blu-ray is coming soon and we will be able to watch this amazing film as many times as we like. That will allow us to pick it apart, put it back together and gather what we can from the Doctor Strange sneak peek and all the featurettes. And if you are like me and enjoy proudly staring at your Marvel Cinematic Universe collection, well, you will have that option, too.
But what I am most glad about is that I can't say that I hope these special features will give more clarity to the film, since I was never confused during the story and didn't have a hard time believing what was happening in the first place. The film was amazingly paced and structured. And in an era where a lot of companies are just trying to release their films as fast as they can, sometimes to the detriment of the final product, that is a big accomplishment.
