It was in the second episode of Game of Thrones Season 1 when Jon Snow told Arya to "stick 'em with the pointy end," but that advice could've come a little sooner for Kit Harington who, the night before his first audition for the ridiculously popular HBO series, was served a big whopper to the face at Mickey D's.
In a sit-down interview with W Magazine, Harington explains that it was during a classy date with a previous flame and was defending her honor — like any son of Dragonstone would — as a vile human begun berating her mid-meal.
“He started being really rude to the girl I was with, calling her names … Then he called her something like ‘ugly pig’ or something worse.”
Clearly such attitude is not acceptable, so being the honorable gent he is, Harington “called him up for a fight," a move he swiftly regretted after this asshole rose to tower above him like Ser Gregor and promptly "battered" the living shit out of him.
Yet despite said heathen — who clearly had no idea he was messing with future King in the North — being the reason Harington turned up for his audition with a black eye, the actor has zero Ygrittes. After all, it could've been down to this "I've been through some dark times" aesthetic that landed him the role in the first place.
“I think that man who punched me in the face may have helped me get the job, so if you’re watching, thank you.”
And thank you from us too, I guess!
