Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first stand-alone anthology film of the Star Wars franchise, disconnecting itself from the main Skywalker saga. Though not part of the main saga, the movie is still grand, with a lineup of actors that are simply phenomenal. This article will be part of a series of articles where I explore the actors of Rogue One, listing and detailing some of their most recognizable roles, films and other points. Let’s begin with the main star of Rogue One, the great Felicity Jones.

Felicity's Beginnings

Felicity Rose Hadley Jones was born in Birmingham, England, and at just 23 years old graduated from Oxford University, where she studied English. Her career as an actress started at a very young age when in 1996 she appeared in the television movie The Treasure Seekers. During her time at Oxford, Jones landed several roles in television shows and theater. At age 13 she starred in the popular British television series The Worst Witch, which aired for three seasons, and later starred in its follow-up show, Weirdsister College. By 15 she had a main role on the British radio show The Archers alongside actor Benedict Cumberbatch. In 2008 she appeared in the episode of Doctor Who “The Unicorn and the Wasp.” In that same year, Jones made her big screen debut.

When you're a young actor, there's this pressure to rush. But I hope to be doing this into my sixties and seventies, so I'd prefer to take my time. - Felicity Jones

Television To Cinema

Her first big screen appearance came in the 2008 film Flashbacks of a Fool, which starred Daniel Craig in the titular role. From 2008 to 2010 she starred in various films, but it wasn’t until 2011’s romantic drama Like Crazy that she started gaining massive popularity internationally. Like Crazy tells the story of a boy and a girl who are in love but are soon separated due to Felicity's character’s immigration status in the United States. In that film she starred alongside the late Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence.

She gained more international recognition with the 2013 film The Invisible Woman, a period-drama movie which told the story of an actress and a married famous novelist who fell in love. Jones played the fan-favorite Felicia Hardy (Black Cat) in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Though her character didn’t become the villainous Black Cat, fans were hoping for her portrayal in the cancelled The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

I think you're attracted to things that are different from yourself in a character because it's more interesting, and you get to play out a fantasy version of yourself. - Felicity Jones

The Theory of Everything

Her most critically-acclaimed and most recognized role was in the movie The Theory of Everything, where she played Jane, the wife of theoretical physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking. The biopic tells the story of Hawking from his time before he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (ALS) to his time when he gained international fame. In The Theory of Everything, Jones starred alongside the talented Eddie Redmayne whose performance in that film won him the 2014 Academy Award for Best Actor.

Awards And Nominations

Felicity Jones has been nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe award for her performance in The Theory of Everything. She won several awards including an Empire Award and an award from the Sundance Film Festival for her performance in Like Crazy.
