First things first, credit where it's due. I found this idea on TV Tropes, and fell in love with the idea. I knew it would be fun to reason it out.
So let's get to it: Could Zootopia be Naboombu?
Some of you might have seen Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks, but maybe not in years. Some of you (like me) might not have seen the movie but at least know of it. And some of you are scratching your heads and saying, "Wasn't Naboombu what Aladdin called himself when Genie made him a prince?"
A Little Background On Naboombu
For those who don't know or don't remember, Naboombu was an island in the 1971 Disney film. Though most of the movie is live-action, the island is animated, much like the world inside of Bert's chalk sketches in Mary Poppins. As the story goes, the Rawlins children, Angela Lansbury, and the dad from Mary Poppins fly on enchanted bed to Naboombu, an island full of, you guessed it, intelligent animals, created by the abominable experiments performed by the wizard Arathon.
How long ago did this happen? Just how big is the island? What happens after the humans leave the island? These questions are never answered, leaving plenty of room for our theory. Maybe Zootopia takes place years after the events of Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Maybe ... 45 years later?
There's not much evidence one way or the other, unfortunately. We know that Naboombu at least has some form of classism modeled after the animal kingdom, with predators and other large animals at the top, which Zootopia shows as well. Honestly, Naboombu has such little worldbuilding that it's hard to make an argument for or against the theory, which is one of the things that makes it so much fun. The possibilities are limitless.
Other Possibilities For Naboombu
If you're one of those Disney conspirators who likes a holistic theory, you're going to like where this is going. What if Zootopia isn't the only movie that takes place in Naboombu?
Hear me out. Reasonably, if Zootopia is what becomes of Naboombu after the events of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, what was the island like before that? Maybe in the dark ages there was a town on the island called Nottingham. Maybe there's a savannah in Naboombu, and sometime before Arathon anthropomorphized the animals, lions ruled, and called their kingdom the Pridelands.
At this point, there's room for the grander theory that all Disney movies are connected. If this were true, it would mean ... our little theory has no entered a world where humans exist, or existed at one point in time. Perhaps Zootopia is really just out there, waiting, hidden somewhere in the south pacific ...
Or maybe ... could it be?
I should've known! The Illuminati were behind it all along!
