Movie crossovers rarely happens, and can be met with mixed reactions by fans and critics alike. Alien vs Predator, Freddy vs Jason and even Simpsons meet Family Guy are all prime examples of two franchises merging to create something new. Having fun with this idea, here are five crossover films that could prove very interesting.
1. Transformers and G.I. Joe.
This is a crossover that could actually be happening. Both film franchises have succeeded in capturing the attention of their old-school fans, while creating a whole new audience of fans through the films. The Transformers and G.I. Joe have crossed paths before in the comics. Back when G.I. Joe: Retaliation was released in 2013, producer Bonaventura announced that he was open to the crossover. Jon Chu director of the film even said he was open to directing the crossover. Since then, we've heard conflicting reports about whether or not this project was going to happen. However, there is still a possibility of seeing this one come to fruition.
The dynamics they could create using members of Team Joe pairing up with Autobots, while Team Cobra members pair off with Decepticons. Add to that Team Joe and Cobra utilizing Cybertronian technology on their weaponry, we would have the recipe for a film filled with so many explosions even Micheal Bay would have trouble keeping up.
2. Godzilla vs King Kong vs Pacific Rim
Another crossover that has been floating around among the fans is the idea of Godzilla vs King Kong vs Pacific Rim. We all know Godzilla and King Kong have a rivalry, but what would happen with a giant Jaeger was thrown into the battle? Perhaps the two long-time rivals will see the meaning behind the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Granted, the writers would have a pretty hard time justify why they're all in the same place, but the fight between the three would be a pure visual orgasm for any action lover.
3. The Incredibles meet Big Hero 6!
This one might annoy a few, as Disney would be cashing in on their animated hero franchises like they have with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But consider how brilliant a movie featuring both sets of characters would be. While there were no obvious links between The Incredibles's world and Big Hero 6's world, that does not mean they could not be the same world. They could also have fun pair the members of the two teams to create some interesting combinations. One example would be Dash and Honey Lemon, Dash would allow Honey Lemon to drop her power balls all over the battlefield. Another possibility for the idea would be to bring back the villains from their films to join forces against the united heroes.
4. Terminator vs Predator.
This was something that popped up on the internet created by a fan. The premise for the film would be that it is time for the Predators to return for their next hunt, but Skynet has already taken control of the planet. The twist is, Skynet are aware of the alien hunters and are ready for their return. It would see the hunters become the hunted in a high action sci-fi. There have even been comics featuring the franchises meeting before, so a live-action film could one day happen.
The exciting part behind this idea is how they could portray a new side to the Predators. If Skynet is truly ready for them, the Predators could be seen joining the human resistance and equipping human soldiers with their mighty weaponry.
5. Batman vs Alien.
Admit it, simply reading that headline has made you excited for the idea. Batman fans are always eager to see the Dark Knight face various foes, simply to prove he is the best there is. What better way to test him than Gotham being the center of a nest of alien Xenomorphs? Also, image the Xenomorphs they could make by using some of Batman's foes as hosts. Xenomorphs take on characteristics based on their host, as seen in Alien 3 and Alien vs Predator 2. So what do you think a Xenomorph that hatched out of Bane, Killer Croc or Poison Ivy would be like?
What would be interesting is seeing what extents Batman would go to just to defeat the aliens threatening all the world. Would Batman even go so far as to destroy all of Gotham? Or would his sharp mind figure out a hidden weakness within the aliens.
With word surfacing about Marvel and Fox talking about the X-Men appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could be possible for us to see the two teams come to blows. The AvX storyline focused on the Avengers fearing the Phoenix Force - a force which has just come to light in X-Men: Apocalypse. The time is perfect to make a superhero like never before. They would obviously change elements and characters, but to see the Avengers vs the X-Men is something that would pull in massive audiences.
With crossovers being a web of issues to create, let alone being well received, they are a tricky venture for any title. However what is key when creating a successful crossover is, what titles you are pulling together. Only once this question has been answered can a writer begin to consider if the elements of the separate story have links that make them plausible to crossover. Perhaps with movies and television properties becoming bigger with each passing year, crossovers could be something we see more of in the future.
