Throughout the past couple of weeks, we have received a lot of news revolving around the third season of The Flash, including the return of Jesse Quick and the confirmation that Season 3 will be based on DC Comics' Flashpoint. However, probably the biggest announcement for The Flash Season 3 is the casting of Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise.
Felton has been cast as a series regular named Julian Dorn. He is not a character from the comics but an original character for the show. However, we do know that he will be a CSI assistant at the Central City Police Department alongside Barry Allen. He will be a suspicious character trying to find out the secrets that Barry is hiding while holding some deep secrets himself.
That is all we have learned about Felton's character. While Felton has played villainous characters in the past and his role on The Flash does appear rather duplicitous, it does not necessarily mean he will be a villain. However, there is one rogue of the Flash's that many fans are hankering to see Julian Dorn evolve into and become the main antagonist of the third season.
Tom Felton As Godspeed
Many fans want Tom Felton to portray Godspeed — a brand new villain who is currently being introduced in DC Rebirth. In the first and latest issue of The Flash, Barry works with a CSI assistant who gets struck by lighting and while it is not official, it is safe to say the CSI assistant — August Heart — becomes Godspeed.
The Flash Issue 2 comes out July 13 and the description confirms that August Heart does indeed become a speedster. Whether or not he transforms into the villainous Godspeed or not is hidden, but it is pretty obvious. Here's the official issue description from DC Comics:
“LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE” Chapter Two: In issue #2, The Flash trains novice speedster August Heart to help protect the people of Central City from the Black Hole, a new breed of rogue with a deadly agenda for the Fastest Men Alive.
August Heart getting struck by lightning is the latest thing to happen in the Flash Rebirth run. Therefore, we haven't even seen Godspeed yet besides some brief flashes that Wally West received from the Speed Force. We have learned nothing about Godspeed's character at all, yet fans desperately want him to appear on The Flash.
Why Do Fans Want Godspeed?
The fact that fans want Godspeed to appear on The Flash is ludicrous to me. First of all, the past two seasons had a speedster as their main antagonist. Many fans complained about how similar Zoom felt to the Reverse-Flash. Given that, why do fans want another speedster? Do they really know what they want? It is like on Arrow when everyone complained about the Black Canary but when she kicked the bucket, fans were outraged and petitioned to get her back.
In reality, the show did the best they could to differentiate the characters making the costume, voices, colors, and overall appearance very different. When it comes down to it, they are both speedsters who were faster than the Flash and Barry had to train harder to defeat them. Let's not forget the fact that the identities of both of the speedsters turned out to be Barry's mentors trying to get him to run faster. A speedster villain for the third time in a row isn't going to be very compelling.
That aside, why else would fans want Godspeed to appear on the show? Is it because he looks cool? It has to be, because we don't know anything about him yet. Don't get me wrong — I bet Godspeed will turn out to be a fantastic villain. DC Rebirth has been a superb run so far and has not disappointed me in the slightest. However, it is just to early to tell anything about Godspeed.
Godspeed Won't Be On The Flash
I'm not just saying that I don't want Godspeed on The Flash; I'm saying he's not going to be on The Flash. While Tom Felton's character seems very similar to August Heart in the comics, it would be almost impossible to include Godspeed on the show at this stage. Godspeed is a brand new villain and by the time the season premiere of The Flash rolls around, only a few issues of The Flash comic book series will have been released. There's a chance that Godspeed will still not have been fully introduced yet or all of his secrets revealed.
For Godspeed to be put onto a TV show, there would have to be more source material than one incomplete comic book run — Godspeed is too new of a character. All in all, the character of Godspeed is still in development and putting him on a TV show is extremely improbable.
