Just so you know, as a reader, this article is full of spoilers! We all got to finally here the most popular theory in Game of Thrones confirmed that Jon Snow is a Targaryen! This could change the game entirely for the current players, or it could change nothing. It is time to ponder the complicated question of what might happen now.
Currently, Jon has no idea who his mother and real father are but I'm sure it will be only a matter of time before he does. Assuming Bran tells him as soon as possible it is quite possible by mid Season Seven there will be two known Targaryens in this world. The consequences of this could be dire.
A New Name Thrown In For The Iron Throne
After winning back Winterfell from the Boltons the other Northern lords proclaimed Jon Snow as the King in the North! Let's assume that he does not come to the same end as his brother before him, should he choose to accept this, will he go after the Iron Throne? If he takes the Northern throne, Jon will have immense amount of numbers at his disposal. After the battle for the living occurs he could very easily start the march for the Red Keep. Being part of the north and having a serious claim to the throne as a Targaryen, Jon could be the next King of Westeros. Yes, Jon is technically a bastard as far as legitimacy goes. Should that make him any less of a contender than other players in the game? In this writers opinion, he has as much right as Daenerys. He has lived in Westeros his entire life and has the realm's best interest at heart. As Aerys' eldest child's only living child this gives him a better chance than a woman from across the sea with a last name of Targaryen.
Save The World
There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him.
The prophecy above could very well be describing our favorite bastard. During the episode Hardhome Jon did in fact pull a sword from the fire. It being of Valerian steal, cut through one of the White Walkers. Besides all of that, Jon is literally the epitome of fire and ice as far as blood goes. He is basically the title of the series (A Song of Ice and Fire) that Game of Thrones is based off of.
Taking A Step Into The Shadows
Lord Commander and now King in the North Jon has always been a good, yet reluctant, leader. I, personally, think that once it is all said and done Jon will ask Daenerys to let the North have its independence. At this point they will all have killed the White Walkers with Jon at the lead. Together with her dragons, Daenerys and Jon will defeat the Others and will set on to recapture the throne. Jon will deny the throne and will do so under the condition that Winterfell and others in the North be allowed to free. As she said in the final episode, every house and kingdom is free to ask. I believe she will grant this wish after seeing the Starks and other houses in the North fight for the good of the realm.
Now that we know how Jon Snow truly came to be, what do you think will happen next? Will he become the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms or just settle down as King of the North? Let us know in the comments what you think will happen.
