One of the most underrated yet most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe is Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch, who has proven herself time and again to be one of the most dangerous yet interesting characters throughout the various timelines and dimensions. Wanda is the daughter of Magneto, the Sister of Pietro (a.k.a. Quicksilver) and the wife of Vision, and we all know popular stories of Wanda unleashing her powers such as House of M, where she de-powered almost the entire mutant race, including her brother, in just three words.
With this in mind, you won't believe the following five facts, since I have collected five of the craziest, most interesting, and most shocking facts that you will now be able to add to your mad nerd knowledge about Scarlet Witch from the films and comics. So let's get this started!
1. Elizabeth Olsen Was Involved In Choreographing Her Fingers
Elizabeth Olsen has been doing a spectacular job portraying Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, in movies such as Captain America: The Winter Solider, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War, and has developed (and will continue to develop) her character with each movie. One of the best aspects of the character in the film is her amazing finger work, which might seems like a little bit of a cray thing to say, but it fits the character. When in an interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Elizabeth commented on her finger movement after being asked if she came up with the movement herself.
"I work with Jenny White who is this amazing like post-modern British dancer..."
Elizabeth and Jenny work together to isolate each finger to create more unique and magical movement, with the special effects team adding the rest on the computer.
2. She Is Not Really A Mutant
It has recently been revealed that the twins' powers of super speed and reality manipulation (and much more) were not a cause of mutation. It was discovered that Wanda and Pietro were born as normal children, and were kidnapped by a being named The High Evolutionary. He told them that he genetically modified their chromosomes, which manifested the powers they possess today. He later released them because of the experiment's failure, and when people around town saw their powers, they believed they came from mutation, when they actually were very not.
3. She Wears A Wimple
Since her first appearance in 1964, Wanda has been gracing a red headpiece that stayed with her through the decades, and fans have been wondering what it actually is. It was later identified as a wimple, which is an artifact worn by married women in medieval times around the chin and neck. Scarlet Witch wears this piece of clothing until this day, and it became a very recognizable with her character.
4. She Had An Incestuous Moment With Quicksilver
Earth-616 is not the only Marvel timeline, and even thought it is probably the most famous one, another one almost as popular is the Ultimate timeline. The Ultimate timeline was created in order to make popular characters simpler than their mainstream counterparts, but the idea clearly didn't pass over to Wanda and Pietro. Although it was never specifically stated, it was pretty obvious that in this version of the twins they were romantically involved with each other. Not creepy at all.
5. She Had A Cow For A Nanny
In their original birth, Magda, the wife of Magneto, ran away to the mountains where a race of humans mixed with animals created by — you guessed who — The High Evolutionary, lived. There, a cow woman named Bova took care of the twins until she finally found the Maximoff family to take care of the twins.
