Earlier in March, it was announced that Warner Bros. would bring Ayer and Smith back for a sequel to Suicide Squad, to be shot in 2017 after the pair completed filming another project. And in April, Ayer expressed an interest in making the sequel R-rated, but I think that an R-rated film wouldn't work out.
The sequel can be a great time to bring back old characters, but also introduce some new villains, setting up later appearances in future films. Here are some characters that can join the Squad. Let's get started!
Introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Russian terrorist Anatoli Knyazev was working for Lex Luthor and almost killed Martha Kent with a flamethrower in the warehouse. Batman caused the gun to explode, leaving us to only guess he might be dead or badly injured. He could come back looking more like his comic book counterpart. He was briefly seen in Batman: Assault on Arkham, before telling Amanda Waller that she was bluffing about the bombs and dying shortly after.
2. Killer Frost
Yes, it would be cool for Killer Frost to be introduced in a Suicide Squad sequel, and it can set up her character to be a side villain in The Flash's solo flick. Louise Lincoln is the second Killer Frost and is the one shown alongside the squad in Batman: Assault on Arkham, but I would like the Caitlin Snow incarnation to be introduced into the films. I loved Danielle Panabaker on The Flash and I would love to see her come back as the icy villain.
Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke is one of my favorite Batman villains, and it'd be super cool to see him alongside villains and in other DC films. When Suicide Squad was first filming, there were rumors spreading around that Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello was going to portray the assassin, but they turned out to be fake. Joe is built like Deathstroke and he'd play the part perfectly.
4. The Riddler
As for his role in the movie, The Riddler can be set up as the villain that has something valuable, and Waller has to send the squad to get whatever item Eddie has. We already know that he exists, as he was teased in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
I would like Johnny Depp to play The Riddler. Johnny Depp is known for playing some crazy characters, and The Riddler is one of those people I feel that Depp can play extremely well. However, I'd also think that Leonardo DiCaprio could also play The Riddler.
Ben Affleck's portrayal of the Dark Knight is fantastic in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he's coming back to appear as a cameo during flashbacks in Suicide Squad. However, Batman's role in the sequel could be bigger, say, if he's trying to stop the squad from retrieving an object that he himself might even want.
