You may have noticed recently that there's been a bit of a trend for depicting comic book characters fighting each other on the big screen. Now that they're all super popular, audiences are asking questions like: "Could Spider-Man beat Black Panther in a fight?" With that being said, why don't we take a look through my favourite battles between superheroes on the silver screen so far?

5) Iron Man vs Thor (The Avengers)

It's fun, it's frantic, and it's a really good showcase of both characters, as well as just being a generally awesome spectacle. Thor and Iron Man are strangers to each other, but as soon as they have any excuse to showcase how hard they can punch, they jump right into it. We go through Iron Man's repulsor beams, Thor's lighting, standard fisticuffs, as well as a bit of slamming each other into cliffs and through trees. A historic moment in nerd cinema, and an awesome moment in cinema period.

4) Superman vs Zod (Man of Steel)

For all the (often valid) complaints about Man of Steel, I have always maintained that when taken on their own merits and out of context, the action scenes are absolutely incredible. Both a technical achievement and a spectacular visual treat, Superman and Zod flying through the streets of Metropolis and battling over the fate of the planet is truly something to behold. To be honest, I agonised over choosing between this fight and the Smallville scuffle, but this one won out because it goes to space, and feels much more epic because of it.

3) Batman vs Joker's Truck (The Dark Knight)

Yeah, maybe some of the other entries on this list are bigger, bolder, and more bombastic, but damn if this one doesn't still draw a gasp out of me to this day. Even if you eliminate the blood-pumping context and ramifications of the scene, the fact that they actually pulled this trick off in reality - and the beautiful framing of the scene courtesy of Wally Pfister - mean this whole scene really packs a punch. I will also forever adore how the Bat-Bike flips around by going up the wall; that was the absolute coolest thing ever when I first watched it. Still is, actually.

2) Nick Fury's Car vs Hydra & Bucky (Winter Soldier)

Yeah, you can have your Gods fighting dudes in metal suits, but I'll always be a sucker for a good car chase, and this is one of the best I've ever seen. Escalating slowly but surely, introducing cool new gadgets, and showing the more badass side of Director Fury, this one has me on the edge of my seat every time.

1) Spider-Man vs Doc Ock (Spider-Man 2)

Look, if I were to make a list simply about the best action scenes in cinematic history, this one would almost certainly be somewhere on that. Beyond some questionable CGI at times, the fast pace and brilliant scope of this fight, coupled with the Danny Elfman theme, make it an absolutely incredible experience. Imagination, wondrous visuals, and mostly stunning effects, this one is truly iconic- and, if you ask me, rises above all the rest.

Wrapping Up...

No doubt you have your own picks for action scenes that deserve to be on this list. If so, you can let us know what they are in the comments. Alternatively, you can also cast a vote for your favourite out of the five that I've already mentioned, but why would you do that when I've already ranked them so perfectly and ingeniously? See you next time, mate.
