For any real Potterhead, birthdays and holidays meant one thing: A giant haul of Harry Potter swag. For as long as I can remember, every holiday I have been gifted at least one Harry Potter-themed present. From the entire set of Sorcerer's Stone action figures to a simple yet elegant Deathly Hallows notebook, I am in no short supply of Harry Potter memorabilia.
When my family and friends were doing most of this shopping back in the early 2000s, these toys were in high demand and came with a price tag to prove it. But in recent years, some of those high retail prices have skyrocketed as the toys have achieved "collectors item" status.
Here are 19 old Harry Potter toys and their current selling prices:
Note: These selling prices are based off Amazon listings. There's a chance you'll find these toys for different prices elsewhere.
Harry Potter Wizard's Chess
Current Selling Price: $200.40
Even for $200, I don't think this set is nearly as interactive as real Wizard's chess. But I can find some solace in the fact that even these stationary pieces are slightly more magical than the average chess set.
Harry Potter Diagon Alley Board Game
Current Selling Price: $119.94
The Harry Potter Diagon Alley Board Game originally came out back in 2001, truly the heyday of Harry Potter board games. The objective of this game was to make your way through Diagon Alley and purchase all of your Hogwarts school supplies faster than the other players. For the low price of $119, all the fun of running errands can be yours!
Harry Potter Gringotts Wizards Tin Bank
Current Selling Price: $239.00
I'll be the first to admit that this Gringotts piggy bank it awesome, but I'm not sure if it's $239 awesome. Perhaps there's a tiny tin Ukrainian Ironbelly living within its magical walls. If that's the case, then this price is justifiable.
Harry Potter Mystery At Hogwarts Game
Current Selling Price: $73.99
The Mystery at Hogwarts game was essentially Clue, but it takes place entirely within the castle walls. The objective is to figure out which student performed a forbidden spell in which room.
Harry Potter Polyjuice Potion Maker
Current Selling Price: $126.12
This is one of those toys I actually owned, but never played with much. Partially because there was such an intense setup that I felt immediately deterred. I'm pretty sure I just ate all of the flavored powders plain. Now I wish I had never played with it at all because I could sell that bad boy for over $100.
LEGO Harry Potter Castle
Current Selling Price: $589.99
Not only does this LEGO set give you all of Hogwarts to make your own — which can be easily assembled with the 1,290 pieces — but it also includes 11 characters, the Sorting Hat, the Sword of Gryffindor, a Basilisk fang, and secret sliding stairs. Is it too much to ask for this for my 25th birthday?
Fred Weasley Quidditch Action Figure
Current Selling Price: $75.00
The $75 price tag alone isn't a ton, but if you buy one member of the Gryffindor Quidditch team it feels like you should buy them all, right? Otherwise how will you accurately act out Gryffindor's rousing defeat of Slytherin for the House Cup in Prisoner of Azkaban?
Hermione Granger Action Figure
Current Selling Price: $70.44
Even Mattel couldn't quite nail just how frizzy Hermione's hair really was in the books. What a shame.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone Trivia
Current Selling Price: $59.87
Of all the Harry Potter board games, the Sorcerer's Stone Trivia Game was by far my favorite. As a highly competitive Potterhead, this game put me in my element. When it was my turn to choose game night, everyone in my family knew they were going down.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone Uno
Current Selling Price: $198.67
What's one way to improve upon the time-tested game of Uno? Harry Potter-ify it, of course! For a measly $198.67, you can own these collector's edition cards and skip, reverse, and wild card your way into an awesome memorabilia collection.
Hogsmeade Harry Potter
Current Selling Price: $77.97
While Hogsmeade themed, this Harry Potter doll unfortunately doesn't come with a sack filled with Honeydukes candy or Zonko's jokes.
Harry Potter Plush
Current Selling Price: $65.00
Here's the section of the list that gets the slightest bit creepy. I think that the Harry Potter dolls and action figures are relatively on-point, but these Gund plushes really miss the mark. Especially when they come with a $60+ price tag.
Hermione Granger Plush
Current Selling Price: $115.00
I guess this bears a vague likeness to Hermione, but not enough that it warrants such a large price. That being said, I imagine these plush dolls were made more for cuddling than comparing to their literary and cinematic inspirations.
Ron Weasley Plush
Current Selling Price: $78.88
Poor Ron. Between Harry and Hermione, Ron really did get the short stick when it came to merchandise. I have to say, this plush is the biggest offender of them all. This looks nothing like Ron aside from the red hair. Have we ever even seen him wear a purple polo shirt? Not as far as I remember.
Harry Potter Broomstick Quidditch Game
Current Selling Price: $89.99
To clarify, this isn't the vibrating Nimbus 2000 toy that caused a stir back in the early 2000s. This one is a collapsable broom with an LCD screen that allows the player to fly around the pitch — or more likely your living room — and play Quidditch.
Harry Potter Levitating Challenge Board Game
Current Selling Price: $119.78
This was the Jedi Force Trainer game before it was cool. Players would have to use magic to float a ball through a tricky obstacle course while some weird — and vaguely German — voice says, "keep focus" over and over again. Maybe I was just saying it wrong. It's Levi-O-sa, not Levio-SA.
Harry Potter And The Whomping Willow Playset
Current Selling Price: $249.97
This Whomping Willow Playset not only comes with the destructive tree, but also a small Aragog, Harry, Ron and the Ford Anglia. This 2002 toy might not look like much, but back in the day I remember it being all the rage.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone Mystery Puzzle
Current Selling Price: $94.99
A mystery puzzle, a magical decoder and a Quidditch card game? The real magic is how much fun they were able to pack into one Harry Potter package.
Complete Harry Potter LEGO collection
Current Selling Price: $10,000.00
Alright, I know that this is listed on eBay, where anyone can list things for an exorbitant cost. But buying all 55 Harry Potter LEGO sets and all of the miniature figurines is a dream come true for a serious Potterhead. Still, I don't think I'd pay the price of a decent used car for them.
Even though part of me wishes I had kept and sold all of my best Harry Potter toys, I don't think I would trade the years I had playing with them for anything.
For those of you who are still kids at heart and have a few extra dollars to spend (lucky), the links to buy the toys are each listed with the price. Go forth and spend all of your Galleons!
