San Diego Comic-Con is one of the largest sources of entertainment news. Most movie studios attend every year and give huge presentations, announcing huge news and showing awesome trailers. Last year, Marvel did not attend Comic-Con but instead went to Disney's version of Comic-Con — D-23.
Warner Bros. has big plans for Comic-Con this year, so fortunately, Marvel will be heading to San Diego this month where we're expecting to see a ton of news revolving around their upcoming Phase 3 films. Of course, Marvel has kept what they are revealing a secret for the most part. However, there are some things that we expect to see and then there are things that we are craving to see — so let's talk about those.
The first movie to get its own presentation is Doctor Strange, the next Marvel movie on their slate as it's coming to theaters in less than four months on November 6. However, we have only seen one full trailer — we are definitely due for a second one. Hopefully, we will get a better look at the way magic will be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first trailer was more of an introduction to Stephen Strange and his story. While it was awesome to see, it wasn't really an exciting trailer — at least for myself.
A second trailer could show so many more awesome shots of the magic and a look at many of the characters that we haven't seen. This movie is coming up faster than we think and Marvel needs to get people excited.
Besides a trailer, there's not much more that Marvel can show. We will most likely get to see Benedict Cumberbatch along with the rest of the cast. We will receive some more details about the film but all in all, a huge trailer is what we will get from Doctor Strange as the film is in post-production and nearing completion.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the other main film that Marvel is bringing to Comic-Con this year and is being hyped up by director James Gunn himself. In fact, most of the information we have received about this presentation has come from Gunn's Facebook page. He has confirmed that Chris Pratt and the rest of the cast — along with himself — will be doing a huge panel to talk about the much anticipated sequel. During this panel, I think we will get a much better idea of what the Guardians will be up to in this movie. I think we will also find out who the main villain is in the film. I would love to find out the identity of Star-Lord's father, but I think that we will have to wait for the movie on that one.
Besides finding out lots of new information, Gunn has pretty much confirmed that we will get some sort of footage. They have been filming for a while, so a trailer might be something they would be able to put together. However, Gunn has referred to our "special surprise" as "footage." Therefore, it will probably be more along the lines of a sizzle reel.
While it is unofficial whether or not Spider-Man: Homecoming will be making an appearance, it's a pretty safe bet to say it will as the movie is less than a year away — and it's Spider-Man! There could be a lot of details revealed like the confirmation of the main villain or Zendaya's role in the film. There are so many mysteries floating around this movie and Comic-Con is a perfect time for Marvel to reveal some information.
Also, it was would be awesome if we received a teaser trailer for the movie. The movie just started shooting a few weeks ago, but they could still manage to put a little something together just to get fans excited for what is about to come. A dream come true would be the confirmation of many roles, a better idea of what the movie is about, and a teaser. Please, Marvel — we're begging here!
Thor: Ragnarok comes out next fall and has just started shooting less than a week ago. I wouldn't expect any footage at Comic-Con, however, if they got director Taita Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth out there to give out some additional information about the film, it'd be a great chance for promoting the movie and reminding people that it's coming.
With DC bringing Wonder Woman to Comic-Con, this would be the perfect time for Marvel to announce who is portraying Carol Danvers in the MCU. At the end of the Marvel Studios presentation, Marvel could thank everyone for coming and be like "Wait! We have one more thing to tell you... Captain Marvel will be played by [insert actress]!" and she could walk out onto the stage, the crowd going nuts.
