Glee may have ended a little over a year ago but certain elements of the hit musical dramedy will live on forever: The cast's hit covers of timeless songs, the characters that were full of life and, of course, TV's most hilarious baddie Sue Sylvester.
One of the things that made Sue such a great bad guy was her remarkable array of side-splitting one liners that are so off the wall you'd probably get arrested for using them in real life. In honor of legendary actress Jane Lynch's 56th birthday this week, let's take a look back at Sue's best insults.
You said it, Sue! Not everybody could get away with saying these lines aloud, but Sue can — let's not forget, she was not only a multi-award winning cheerleading coach, but the final episode saw her crowned Vice President of the United States.
Let's begin with a classic from all the way back in Season 1.
"So you like show tunes. It doesn't mean you're gay. It means you're awful."
Ouch, that's got to sting! The unfortunate recipient of this nasty statement was Kurt Hummel. But that's only scratching the surface of Sue's award-worthy insults. Remember her true nemesis is Will Schuester and wait to you see what she had in store for him.
"Nobody quite like the material girl to empower my Cheerios. Just like your hair dresser has empowered you to look absolutely ridiculous."
See what I mean? Sue never held back when insulting Will and she saw every waking moment as an opportunity to do so. It only gets worse:
She never did like Will and this little number came about in Season 1 after Sue sabotaged Will's glee club at Sectionals. I tell you, that woman is pure evil.
One of Sue's trademarks was insulting Will's hair. Although it was toned down in later seasons, she would make reference to the teacher's curly hair at least once an episode. It never got old — in fact, it got more hilarious every time she mentioned it.
The cream of the crop of Sue insults. In fact, some would argue that it's not much of an insult, but it's arguably Sue's most memorable line and only gets funnier every time you hear it.
Poor Will was tortured with Sue insults for the better part of six years, but this line will live on infamy as the best of them all. Just be careful of those animal shelter kitty cats — you never know when Sue's nearby!
And that's just a few of Sue Sylvester's most insulting quotes from Glee's six year run. Glee may have gone to the great big TV in the sky, but it will live on in DVD box sets and re-runs — and perhaps maybe someday we'll get a Netflix revival as that seems to be a current trend at the moment. Either way, Sue Sylvester will never be forgotten, often ranking among the greatest TV villains in history and that's massively due to Jane Lynch's outstanding contribution.
