When Arrow arrived in 2012 and blew our minds with its amazing characters and storytelling, many were skeptical on whether its spin-off, The Flash, would come close to the quality of its predecessor. Fast-forward to 2016, and The Flash has surpassed Arrow in every way imaginable, becoming everyone's favorite superhero TV show.
So far, the series has focused on Barry Allen, the second Flash in the comic books and only recently did it showcase another famous speedster: Jay Garrick. However, he is not the only one that's appeared in the adaptation. Jesse Quick and Wally West made their long-awaited appearances during the second season. Many wondered when Wally would take the mantle of Kid Flash from the comic books, and when he and Jesse were affected by "dark matter", fans lost their minds at the chances of that happening.
Well, it seems that for the third season, Wally West will fully embrace his Kid Flash persona. The CW have just confirmed that Kid Flash will indeed appear in Season 3 of The Flash and released three sweet pictures of actor Keiynan Lonsdale in costume. Check them out:
According to The CW, the character will don the costume in season 3, Episode 1: Flashpoint. This fact raises a considerable amount of questions for the future of the character. Is he will be The Flash of an alternate Earth and not Flash's trusty companion?
What do I mean by that? Well, what if, when Barry changed the timeline by saving his mother, Wally West was the one struck by the lightning and is The Flash of that timeline? Could he be the key to helping Barry set the world straight? That opens a huge possibility for conflict because, would Wally agree to erase his existence just because this young man comes to him and tells him that his version of the world is how everything is supposed to be?
If he is the main Flash in the alternate timeline Barry created, it wouldn't be such a departure from the comics, as Wally took the mantle of the scarlet speedster after Barry Allen's death.
Well, one thing's for sure: The costume will be a relief for many fans - like myself - who prefer the original version of the costume over The New 52 version. It looks as if someone had taken Wally's costume out of a comic book panel and put him in the real world:
The Flash Season Three comes at full speed later this year on October 6, 2016.
