Warning: This article contains major spoilers from The Flash.
With the incredible photo reveal of The Flash's Keiynan Lonsdale wearing the iconic Kid Flash suit, we now know that Wally West will indeed be following his comic book destiny and taking up the mantle of Kid Flash.
We also know that it will happen sometime during Season 3 of The Flash. However, the question is: How will it impact the season, and perhaps more importantly, how will it impact the show?
The Flash Will Get A Sidekick
The one person that Kid Flash's debut is likely to impact the most is the Scarlet Speedster himself, the Flash. Last season, Wally was obsessed with making something of himself and thus became very interested in helping people and ultimately helping the Flash fight crime.
Much like what happened with Roy Harper and the Arrow over Arrow, the young man wanted to repay the hero that saved his life by making sure he was worth saving. A very noble act indeed.
However, the interesting part is that while Wally respected the Flash, he didn't like Barry Allen all that much. Of course, things changed when he found out Barry was the Flash.
But it will be interesting to see the dynamic between the two and if they actually get along out in the crime fighting world. Could Wally's "need for speed" drive him too hard and fast, or could he take to the role well?
With Arsenal officially joining Team Arrow in Season 3, it looks like Kid Flash may be following in his footsteps. Of course, this could be just purely speculation but it does sound like Team Flash is going to be getting a little bit bigger this year.
A Completely New Dynamic
Sidekick or not, having Kid Flash on board is going to completely change the dynamic on The Flash. The character is likely going to be involved in all of the major storylines and Wally is going to take center stage on many occasions — and rightly so. Kid Flash will give Wally a chance to shine as he helps the Flash clean up Central City.
Whether he is racing the Flash to a crime scene or saving people on his own, seeing the adventures of Kid Flash is going to be something I will look forward to seeing when The Flash begins its third season.
A New Speedster Big Bad
Set photos were published today revealing Keiynan Lonsdale's first outdoor scenes as Kid Flash. In said scenes, he goes up against a new sinister speedster. This raises the question: Is this dark speedster the new big bad of Season 3?
Grant Gustin had previously alluded to the fact that Season 3's big bad may not be a speedster or metahuman. However, if this new speedster is our new villain, it will mark the third year running that The Flash focuses on a speedster, following the Reverse-Flash and Zoom in Seasons 1 and 2.
Whether this new speedster is our new primary antagonist remains to be seen, but he does seem to prove that the arrival of Kid Flash perhaps might bring along a slew of new villains too, which is always a good thing.
The Return Of Jesse Quick
Wally wasn't the only one who was sad to see Jesse return to Earth-2 with her father Harry. However, now that we know Wally will become Kid Flash, this could mean that he was actually affected by the wave of dark matter that hit both him and Jesse back in Season 2.
And if he was affected, then it's highly likely that she may have been affected also. This could lead to Jesse returning with superpowers and also taking up her comic book mantle as the heroic Jesse Quick. Violett Beane did confirm that she would be back during Season 3, we just don't know in what capacity yet.
And let's not forget that she seemed to get along with Wally really well. I don't think this is the last we will see of them together. A unique pair of young superhero speedsters might be just what The Flash needs.
"Flashpoint" Kid Flash
Of course, all these theories might not even happen as Barry reset the timeline at the end of Season 2. Now that we know The Flash will be tackling Flashpoint, the show is obviously going to be majorly affected by the events. Could the birth of Kid Flash be a result of altering of the timeline?
Remember the current timeline's Wally West didn't seem to be exhibiting any side-effects after being exposed to the dark matter. Joe even had an awkward conversation with him about it. Everyone's suspicions were raised but that conversation with Joe seemed to silence our hopes.
Could Kid Flash be an alternate timeline version — a "Flashpoint" version — of Wally West? Perhaps there is no Flash in the "Flashpoint" timeline, but that doesn't mean there isn't a Kid Flash. Could Wally be Central City's number one savior? Furthermore, in the Flashpoint comic, Barry's actions had quite an impact on him, could the series reflect that and lead to his becoming Kid Flash?
Of course, just like with the "Flashpoint" theory, perhaps the dark matter really didn't affect Wally at all. Perhaps he really did remain the same and Earth-2 Wally is the version who becomes Kid Flash. Okay, so it's definitely the least likely possibility. But it's not impossible, right? After all, nobody knows when and where more doppelgangers might show up.
Those are just some of the ways that Kid Flash could impact The Flash during Season 3. Whatever happens, it's going to be exhilarating to see Keiynan Lonsdale's Kid Flash side by side with Grant Gustin's the Flash. Season 3 of The Flash is shaping up to be one heck of a ride.
Are you excited to see Keiynan Lonsdale suiting up as Kid Flash? How do you think will he impact the show? Let me know in the comments!
