Marvel is 13 movies in to their universe, but, still, no major character has died. Quicksilver died in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that's still not really a major character. Plus, they've done a lot of fake-out deaths. Today, we're looking at the top 6 Marvel characters who should have died but didn't.
5. Pepper Potts
What's the first thing you think of when you think Iron Man 3? You probably think of the Mandarin twist, but what most people don't remember is that Pepper almost died.
At the climax of the movie, Tony has to catch Pepper so that she doesn't fall to her death. He doesn't catch her, making her fall probably around 200 feet into a fire (she should be dead, right?). Suddenly, she comes back to life and kills the back guy!I don't care if she had Extremis in her, she's dead. She should have totally died there. Even if you say the fall wouldn't kill her, she was in that fire for about five minutes there. She would have totally died, but that would have been a too sad of an ending for a Disney, I mean Marvel, movie.
4. Ultron (Rumored)
Whether you liked him or not, he may be coming back. As you can see, Marvel sort of has a tendency to bring back dead characters, so why couldn't they bring back him? I get into how he could possibly come back in this article, so make sure to check it out.
Yeah...I'd say you're dead.
3. War Machine
Oh, War Machine, you forgettable person. I forgot you existed there for a while. You fell at least 1,000 feet going 400 mph. Are you seriously telling me you didn't die and just got paralyzed?
During the great airport fight scene in Captain America: Civil War, Cap and Bucky got away in a plane. War Machine and Iron Man chased after them, with Falcon also following behind them. Falcon shot at War Machine, which made him tell Vision to shoot him so that he'll glide down. Vision uses a blast from his Mind Stone, which Falcon dodges, hitting War Machine right in the reactor. Falcon and Tony try to save him, but he fell too fast. But...he lives. Really? Really?
2. Nick Fury
You got shot in the chest. By a professional assassin who makes sure they die. You should definitely be dead. And, then, you make us think you're dead for half the movie, then just come back like it's nothing.
When his car is attacked by Hydra agents, Nick Fury decides to go to the only person he can trust, Steve Rogers. He sneaks into his apartment and tells him that S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised. But, right after that, the infamous assassin the Winter Soldier shoots him in the back. They rush him to the hospital, where apparently they fake his death in an operating room so that the Hydra people think he's dead. Or maybe just for dramatic effect. Because, I certainly thought he was dead.
1. Agent Phil Coulson
Come on, you died. We saw you die. He stabbed you in the heart. You stopped breathing. And I know the T.A.H.I.T.I. program saved you and whatever, but you really should have died.
Before the Battle of New York, Coulson confronted Loki and told him to stand down. Loki then used his trickery and came up behind Coulson and stabbed him. Then he took his last breath...in the Marvel movies. And, then, some high-ranking person at Disney, I mean Marvel, decided to bring him back to life so that he could have a spin-off show on ABC! You couldn't have brought Agent Hill or something? Did you really need to undercut the big emotional moment of your movie?
So, there you have it, 5 Marvel characters who should have died but didn't. This kind of makes you wonder who will be the first major character they will actually kill off. I actually have other articles about this, which you can find here, here, and here. Who do you think it will be?
Let me hear what you think. Who do you think will be the first Avenger to die?
