They may have played love interests on screen, but Busy Phillips and James Franco apparently hated each other. The Freaks and Geeks co-stars had a common distaste for one another, Busy explained to Andy Cohen, that even lead to a physical fight at one point. Yikes.

Freaks and Geeks aired from 1999-2000 and was created by Judd Apatow. It only lasted for one season, but that one season seemed to be plenty of time for Franco and Phillips to find some major beef. The on-screen boyfriend and girlfriend did a good job of hiding the tension on film, but as soon as the director yelled cut, things got so bad James got physical at one point. Phillips explained:

"Well at the time, but we've since made amends, James Franco and I really didn't get along. When we were on 'Freaks and Geeks,' we were 19 and we really, really disliked each other. He shoved me to the ground once, it was really brutal."

It seems everyone was a little on edge on set. 16 years after the incident, it's good to hear that Franco and Phillips grew up and are now good friends. Hollywood has enough drama as it is! I'm sure James has since apologized for the shove, because getting physically violent is never okay — even if you're James Franco.

As in love as the fictional couple was on the show, this Freaks and Geeks scene may have given us a little insight into their tumultuous off-screen relationship. The on-screen couple fought a lot in the show, and my bet is they didn't have to act very much while filming. The real emotions were clearly already there.

Do you think Busy should have called out James so long after they've reconciled?
